Best aerospace engineering school for international?

Hello!

I’m a junior in high school right now, and I’m looking into attending a US college for my undergrad. I’d like to major in aero engineering (or at least mechanical engineering), and am looking for full tuition or near full tuition aid/scholarships. I’ve gotten a 1550 new SAT, and 790 in Math 2 and Physics. I also have pretty good EC’s (community service, original research, NYAS junior member, non-profit web design company co-founder). Is it realistic to try and apply to american colleges, or should I just accept the fact that I don’t stand a chance? If there is even a sliver of hope, what colleges should I apply to? (I’m also a huge american football fan, so a college with a great football program would be a great bonus.)

Thanks!

You can certainly find some good programs that will take you but finding large chunks of financial aid will be quite difficult.

Most public schools don’t give out a ton of merit aid and it’s even more difficult as an international. Private schools are more generous there but there are a lot fewer aerospace programs at private schools, and they tend to be more selective.

I can see you getting admission into some great engineering programs in the US that will accept you given your accomplishments. My school, Umich, has a great aerospace engineering program. However, most top programs do not provide much merit based aid, unless you are going into a PhD program with guaranteed funding. Most US schools do require that international students produce proof that they can fully self-fund their education before allowing them to attend.
