Just want to get a sample of opinion from those who have been making the trek from the San Francisco area to Yale. What airport have you been using and why? Thanks in advance.

IMHO: for students, flying into Bradley (Hartford) is the best. Not that far. Lots of airlines connect. The 3 NYC airports (JFK, La Guardia and Newark) is just too darn far. I did it if fares were cheap but the train/bus ride down to/from New Haven was a burden.

Bradley is 45 minutes via shuttle. If your parents are flying in, the DEFINITELY go Bradley. Fly in, rent a car. Best way to get into New Haven.

Has anyone actually flown into Tweed-New Haven airport (after connecting in Philadelphia)?

People use Tweed as well – it’s just that fewer airlines go into there so it’s not an option for most folks. It’s a quick cab ride to campus.

Thanks T26E4

I’m not from Sand Francisco, but just to weigh in on the subject i always fly to Bradley (hartford). Southwest flies there (and it is a direct flight for me) but they are generally cheaper than other airlines and let you check two bags for free. Also, if the price goes down you can rebook the same tickets and get a credit to use towards future flights within the year.
Anyway, that is what most people do who fly (from places in the US. international students use JFK mostly). There are always other people i know on my flight or in the airport when i land. Then you take connecticut limo back to yale. CT limo can be kind of annoying because they only go like every 2 hours and sometimes are overbooked and you have to get on the next one. It costs $35 each way. but they drop you off right at Phelps gate which is nice, especially freshman year. I haven’t really had too many problems with them, but other people have, especially in the winter, though that is probably out of their control.

Some people do fly out of tweed, but they only fly to Philadelphia and only a few times a day and on us airways. So if you have to connect and the price would be about the same, go for it, but most people use bradley.

This may be the least annoying thing. The CT limo sometimes just does not come at the schedule time. It happened to me twice in the past. What is worse is that it would take a lot of efforts to get the refund if the CT limo does not show up.

At the beginning and the end of a semester or spring break, CT limo will most likely show up more or less on time. The problem often happens during the time when few students travel in or out of Bradley.

Bradley is indeed a very convenient airport to get in and out of Yale.

I think many students from the west coast fly red-eye to one of the two airports in NY. It takes much longer to travel from the airport to Yale if you go this route.
