Best and Worst Essay Topics

For purposes of easy reference here is a list of the 12 published essay topics used on the March, May, and June SATs. I've omitted the prompts because they are usually useless. Which topics were the best? Which topics were the worst? I nominate May 3 for best topic because there are many available historic examples. I nominate May 1 (work) for the WORST essay topic ever because almost three months later I still don't know what I would write on this inane topic. What do guys think?

March
1. Is the opinion of the majority - in government or in any other circumstance - a poor guide?
2. Is creativity needed more than ever in the world today?
3. Are people better at making observations, discoveries, and decisions if they remain neutral and impartial?
4. Is a person responsible, through the example he or she sets, for the behavior of other people?

May
1. Do people depend on work - whether it is a job, schoolwork, or volunteer work - to determine what their daily activities and interactions with others should be?
2. Does progress depend on people with new ideas rather than on people whose ideas are based on the current way of doing things?
3. Are people afraid to speak out against authority, whether the authority is an individual, a group, or a government?
4. Does worrying too much about other people's opinions prevent us from seeing things clearly?

June
1. Do memories hinder or help people in their effort to learn from the past and succeed in the present?
2. Do people put too much emphasis on learning practical skills/
3. Do newspapers, magazines, television, radio, movies, the Internet, and other media determine what is important to most people?
4. Should schools help students understand moral choices and social issues?

I wish I had the May#3 essay topic. I agree, the worst would probably be May #1.
