Best and worst housing halls

I've decided to apply for housing but I know nothing about the different halls. I've researched on the schools site some but i'm wondering if current students can give some insight into certain halls that they loved or halls they heard were terrible.

i'm leaning toward an all-freshman dorm close to popular social areas and near a gym or workout center

I know kids who are staying in Territorial (all freshman hall) and LOVEEEEE it! Frontier (the other freshman hall) gets similar reviews. It all goes with your personality though. If you are social and want to make friends easily go with one of those two. Otherwise if you are quiet and less social check out Middlebrook (on the west bank).

My top two I listed on my app are Territorial then Frontier. Go with one of those if you want easy access to most things and the oppurtunity to meet people easily.

which ones are close to a gym? and which one is close to the library?

I'm glad you said those dorms were good, jotajota218. I applied for housing today, and I believe my top three were 1) Pioneer 2) Frontier 3) Territorial.

I picked Pioneer first because I would prefer a dorm that's not all freshman, but still in an area of a lot of student activity (super block). I also like the location and look of the building, with the colonial architecture situated right next to that park on the Mississippi. =)

Any opinions on that dorm?

AT9-Pioneer doesn't have air conditioning....I heard people say it gets REALLY bad in the hotter months (September,October,April and May) so bring a GIANT fan with you. Also there are a LOT more single rooms in Pioneer than any other types, but if you like that, then it'd be a great for you.

Norabelle-There's not really any dorms that are close to the gym because the Rec Center is on University Ave. I'd say the Superblock is probably closest...but it's still quite a walk (well more like 15 mins or so) And there are multiple libraries at the U of M so it depends on the one you want. The two that I'm familiar with are Wilson and Walter. Wilson is on the West bank (and thus has a lot of the West Bank materials---politics, psychology, social sciences etc.) It's closest to Middlebrook. Walter...well I'm actually not sure about everything that Walter has, I just go there for the pretty study space, and it's closest to Comstock. Just because it's the library is in the Mall, and Comstock is right by Coffman.

It's really not air-conditioned??? =(

Oh well, at least I'm from Florida, so I think the hotter months won't be the problem for me lol.

Being in a dorm with majority freshmen ( by large numbers) like Territorial actually kinda seem more pleasent. Due to the environment, everyone is most likely just introduced to college like yourself, etc...
