Best and Worst things about your ethnicity

<p>German and like 1/8 Swedish</p>

<p>Pro:
-Blue Eyes
-Blond Hair, too bad I don’t have it.
-paleness
-rigor of secondary school, maybe..</p>

<p>Cons:
-History for obvious reasons.
-Stereotype of obedient Germans
-Stereotype of beer-drinking, fat Germans in Lederhosen
-I can’t dance
-a country with a lacking identity</p>

<p>Jamaican
as highlander12 said “(will categorize under African-American)”</p>

<p>Pros: The food, the language, mostly everything</p>

<p>Cons: People think I smoke marijuana and listen to a LOT of Bob Marley
(though i do enjoy his music)
Some people also assume that I can dance —>>>I Defintely Can’t
Not expected to be intelligent —>> And Racisim</p>

<p>Asian [specifically Chinese]</p>

<p>Cons: stereotypes and affirmative action in college admissions
Pros: Really everything else</p>

<p>African American
Pros: I’m taller than your average girl.(5’10 inches) No Sunburn.
Affirmative Action? (Don’t like it though)</p>

<p>Cons:
*Hair
*People touching my hair and saying, “I love black people hair”
Being expected to
*Play basketball well ( no coordination)
*Dance (see last entry)
*Do the “Angry Black Woman” thing.</p>

<p>

Hahaha. ;)</p>

<p>Alex</p>

<p>chinese la!</p>

<p>pros - being able to speak chinese, ionno, being asian is pretty cool; decent math background lol (even tho imma bad asian and don’t really excel at it . what i mean is. i can pass AP calc.)</p>

<p>cons- yeh. college stuff. generally smaller build.</p>

<p>Egyptian, Kuwaiti, little bit of Persian
good: I know what true and not true on the news, for example a “madrasa” is not a “terrorist school” it just mean “school”. I guess every educated Arab went to a terrorist school based on what news channels say :stuck_out_tongue:
good food, especially persian and kuwaiti
never gotten a sunburn, the sun is my homie.</p>

<p>bad: I count as “white” on college apps. which is only bad because it doesn’t give me a chances boost.</p>

<p>Black, White, N.A. and who knows what else</p>

<p>pros:
all the “what are you?” questions. Can be good or bad, depending on if the person is rude
i’m kind of exotic looking
‘good’ hair haha
food! my father is jamaican
Affirmative Action!</p>

<p>cons:
rude people making comments
hard to really identify with any one race
people sometimes say racist things around me because I’m not full black and apparently that makes it ok?</p>

<p>I’m half-Korean (there are so many Koreans on this board?!) and half Caucasian.</p>

<p>Pros:
*I love when people try and guess my ethnicity. I have gotten Chinese, Japanese, and plain old white, which were expected since Korea apparently does not exist, but I’ve also gotten Italian (lol), Russian (double lol), and South American (omglol?!?!). I think people see me, don’t exactly know what I am, and therefore pick something out of thin air.
*Korean food. Kimchi, bulgogi, etc.
*Only having to deal with ONE crazy asian parent, which motivates me yet isn’t enough to kill me.</p>

<p>Cons:
*My school is 45% Asian, but I only know 2 other Koreans, so everybody always asks me if I know all these random Korean things that I don’t (I don’t even speak the language, though my mom might send me to Korea for a couple months after graduation to make me learn it).
*Having to deal with crazy Korean mom.
*In my school the Asians are the biggest clique and all hang out together, and pretty much only together. So here I am and I never really feel accepted by all of the Asian group, and I can’t help but feel awkward in the white groups. But I got lucky, I found my friends in the other misfits XD</p>

<p>i’d hardly call it a free pass.</p>

<p>Chinese</p>

<p>Pro: Hot girls, ppl understand if you’re all nerdy, good food</p>

<p>Con: impossible to get into College, ppl expect you to be smart (like parents and peers)</p>

<p>indian:
pros: dance, cool ppl to hang out with(most of mine are anyway)
cons: don’t like the food, or some traditions about girls/guys(my parents are a little conservative) and no independence/fun( no one takes me seriously, i’m still a baby to all my relatives0, and other indians asking you where you’re from..it ticks me off so much oddly enough.</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>Go to hell. ;)</p>

<p>I’m black. </p>

<p>Pro’s: I get involved with different atmospheres. Good food. Since of unity. When were not shooting each other</p>

<p>Con’s: Good food will eventually kill me. Just because i speak differently people automatically think I’m trying to be white. Also the stereotype says that I’m suppose to be some hood rat on the corner of the street. With my paints below my waste. Blasting music out of my car.</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>Yep, because that’s exactly what a hood rat is…</p>

<p>Puerto Rican and Dominican</p>

<p>Pros: Great food, we always love to party and have fun, were good dancers, never have to pay attention in spanish class, urm</p>

<p>Cons: umm well most of my family is hard working but seem to have no desire to move up in society. Most of my family is kind of poor. Most of family is homophobic and its pretty embarressing when they start staring down a gay couple. I dont really see that much cons though im pretty happy and proud of being what i am</p>

<p>Yep, because that’s exactly what a hood rat is…</p>

<p>In your opinion what is it?</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>There’s white kids wearing low rise jeans with their car windows open blasting music… hood rats, right? </p>

<p>Maybe people think you wanna be white because you look down on your own race?</p>

<p>Cameroonian and… Cameroonian (but both of my parents come from different tribes. Scandal!)
Pros: URM status. Nigerian movies. Good family values… I would never, ever put my parents in a nursing home. Kind of exotic- sort of. I also like to shock people with the fact that I’ve actually been gifted with a functioning brain(<em>sigh</em>.) Also, no one evr knows where Cameroon is (in the “elbow” of Africa, btw.)
Cons: URM status. And my family is kind of racist- espescially against blacks, which is weird. And they’re homophobic (well, my dad anyway.) The fact that I was always have to prove to people that I’m intelligent. Getting tracked by cops at malls (yes, that rwally happens.) The fact that every time I go to someone’s house to study/do a project, I have to spend a good fifteen minutes explaining to their parent(s) that: a) yes, I AM actually in your son’s honors class. b) No, I am NOT here to polute him, get him hooked on crack, or jack your car. I swear, do you know how many times I’ve had to pull the “Oh my god, my next SAT is coming, if I don’t get at least a 2300 I’m dead” while “accidentaly” slipping in my last SAT score just to prove that I’m like them?
Oh, and Cameroonian food kind of sucks. I’m so sick of fufu right now…</p>

<p>I agree, I am Chinese and the food and culture is great.</p>

<p>But I do feel like I have meet some sort of expectations that aren’t even from my parents. I feel like I have to live up to high grades because everyone else does. My parents could care less yet I am always stressed because competition is fierce.</p>
