best ap chem book? ap chem tips?

What's the best AP Chem prep book you've come across?

Any tips? Good internet sites for studying? Other advice?

Go to http://www.highschoolhub.org/hub/hub

And then go to the science or chem section. I can't remember what the heading is, then click on Biochem hub. They have a lot of chem stuff, including AP CHEM study cards. Which i have found to be very useful in chem class. We also have this AP chem book that came with our textbook. It's called Chemistry: The Central Science, I think 8th edition. But i found that to be very helpful too. I hope you do also.

If you're gonna cram, use Princeton Review. My friends got Barron's, and they said the book had a lot of errors. Princeton Review is really general, so if you can probably cram the book in 2-3 days. But if you wanna get into details, use the textbook.

ARCO is the best

For cramming PR, but if you want a detailed explanation use barrons. There are errors but if you know some of the stuff you can easily find the errors.

just use pr. you've gone through the course (unless you self-studied; i didn't read your post). pr is concise and easy to get through. that's what i'm using.

what about kaplan or REA??? im doing self study and i have 3 days... what do u guys suggest?

great, thanks everyone for their replies.

i'm taking a course at school ~ for the most part i have the basics of all the concepts we have covered down, but its the details where i get sorta cloudy at. i'm doing pretty well in the class, not as well as i could/should be doing....i'm hoping to at least get a 4....but i'm so freaked out right now that quite honestly i would be delighted with a 3.

does anyone know what the curve is for 3 4 and 5?

and are nuclear chemistry and electrochemistry difficult to learn in one or two days because my class hasn't covered those topics....nor has it covered organic. ah. i need to study so badly.

organic is not on the test directly....dont' spend too much time on it..

I was wondering the same about electro and nuclear chem

Electrochem and basic organic are both pretty easy.

i got a 5 my jr year, nuclear is cake, know the particles and how a loss or gain changes atomic and mass numbers. for electro, know the setup of a battery, how to find voltage, at a stretch, the nernst equation. all easy to learn on your own. organic chem as far as ap goes is basically common groups, such as carbonyls, carboxyls, amines, and how the names of basic hyrocarbons. also memorize the colors of common ions in solution, its an easy 2 or 3 questions in the mult choice.

what is a target score fore a 5 on MC? in an abbriviated time, I got 50. what would that be?

I would say Arco is the best out there, but Princeton Review is close. However, since the exam is so close, definitely use Princeton Review.

I'm going to spend a ridiculous amount of time studying chemical equilibrium and the mandatory reactions section.

If you ace those two sections, you're already more than half way there for the 5. Then you just need a semi-decent score on MC and the rest of the FR.

i did NOT like princeton review. it didn't go into detail at alll, it was just very very basic material and it didn't explain. arco is the best. my school's ap chem book sucks, and so arco was my textbook for the year. and i took ap chem w/o ever having taken a chem course before and arco helped me get a 5.
