What are the best AP's to take to get rid of your General ed's? I mean I know I should take as many as I can, but what general ed's would be better to take in high school to get them out of the way? I want to go to the Elliot School of International affairs.

Any math, science, history (American or Euro) AP’s work well to satisfy GCRs. Just be aware that none of the English APs satisfy the writing GCR. Languages also work well if you don’t want to take 3 years… but you can test out other ways.

Best of luck!

So I am thinking of taking
AP Physics
AP French
AP Stat
AP US H
Ap Government
How many general eds will that cover? I read that one of an AP can cover two general ed requirements. And will not taking AP world history hurt me, or should I take it?

To get credit for several of the foreign languages you need to get a 5 on the AP exam.

Science APs are the best- get a 4 or a 5 and you get 8 credits (2 science GCRs!) Remember though that there is a limit on how many AP credits you can use- it used to be 30, but I think they dropped it to 24 or something (not sure on this though). Also bear in mind that if you are in the Honors program, a lot of your APs won’t count.

Okay so I am going to take AP Physics or AP Bio, drop AP French, keep AP Stat to have one math, and then APUSH and AP Gov I will keep.

Will not taking AP World History slow me down or can I just use APUSH as a credit? I guess I am asking is it required to take AP World History?

You’re not required to take any AP’s. If your good in history you might do both but if not you may want to focus on one. US will give you 6 credits whereas World only gives 3.

But no you aren’t required and it wont hurt you.

Best of luck!

Are you planning to take French in college? Even if you don’t get credit for French taken, it can help you skip years of language. My D went straight into 3rd year level of French, despite having a lousy grade on the AP French exam.

Thanks everyone! I know AP’s aren’t required but I want to get my general ed’s out of the way. I am so glad I won’t have to take World History as an elective senior year because I will have APUSH.

Anyways, I will hopefully take French, Russian, and Arabic at GWU.

My thing is my junior year I will only be at French 2. In my junior year(next) I will be taking French classes at Richard Bland(sister of W&M) and hopefully all the time at Richard Bland will prepare me for AP French(senior year). Most likely though, I will have to take French 3 plus AP French. I can hopefully score a 5 on AP French exam then.

But I was asking if I don’t take World History now, will I have to take it in college?

Because here [Undergraduate - The Elliott School of International Affairs](http://www.gwu.edu/~elliott/academics/ugrad/gen_reqs/societies.cfm)
says World History will be required. So if I take AP world history now, will this wipe out that requirement?

I found this link. [Colonial Inauguration 2009](http://gwired.gwu.edu/ci/academicsnew/collegecredit/AP/)

So basically if I get a decent score on that exam I can skip that class. Alright thanks guys!

what about math APs? if i took the calc bc exam, does anyone know what credit i get for that? does it take away some of the math GCRs?

S got a 5 on Calc BC & got credit for 2 calc classes at GW which fulfilled the math GCR. Not sure what happens if you get a 4…check the link in the previous post.
