I've searched and didn't find any really recent topics...
I will be starting college in the fall, and haven't used a backpack since freshman year. Every time I buy one it falls apart within a month or two. It got old, so I switched to tote bags that I got from AE or wherever.
I sort of want one for college, because I figure I may need one (am i wrong?)... But I want advice on some that are good quality. I don't want another to fall apart before Thanksgiving! I'd prefer it to be somewhat cute (pink is always good).. I just bought a 13 in Macbook and a carrying case with strap, so it doesn't HAVE to have a laptop sleeve, but it couldn't hurt..

best backpacks ever.
they last forever, look sick, and hold a lot.
yes they cost some money, but you get what you pay for.
you buy a $30 backpack it will last a few month.
you buy a $90 backpack, it will last a few years

I have a Jansport that’s lasted me since junior year of high school and I’m starting junior year of college. Granted, I don’t use my backpack much in school. I usually use some of the free drawstring gym bags I’ve collected over the years to carry a notebook or two to class.

I still use the Jansport one when I travel because it’s a little bit smaller and probably less likely to be stolen because it doesn’t have the swoosh all over it

You should look at Timbuk2 bags… they’re really durable. I’ve had mine for a year now, and it’s still in great shape. I’m not sure how it does on the cuteness factor, but you can customize the colors on most bags.

I have a Targus CVR600 … best backpack I’ve ever owned, and a great value too, extremely durable…

My 13" macbook fits fine in it…but be aware that the laptop sleeve (nice and padded) is for a 15.4" laptop, so it does slide around a bit. I got an additional separate “macbook sleeve” that is made for the macbook size, then I put that into the backpack laptop sleeve - it gives it some extra padding and secures it so it doesn’t slide around.

I’ll second Timbuk2. Their prices are steep (messenger bags can run upwards of $150), but they’re very well-built, to the point of being indestructible in normal use. As an added bonus, they look great, with a very distinctive design.

I have a columbia sportswear bag i’ve used every day since i was a soph and it’s still perfect i’ll be taking it to college. i don’t know how much it was but i doubt its over $100 or even over $80

icedragon, i can just about guarantee that you will NOT want to take a wheeling backpack to college.

1.) you’re outside, could get hard to roll across potholes, cracks, dirt, whatever
2.) you’ll get laughed at by just about everyone
3.) those same people will probably kick your bag so that it flips to the non-wheel side and you have to stop what you’re doing to fix it

I’ve had an EMS backpack for the last couple of years and it’s held up great. I think as a general rule of thumb, any backpack that was built with hiking/camping in mind will hold up well.

scratch that, I’ve had this Jansport since 9th grade. I havn’t seen anyone in college with a wheeling backpack. I go to a nerd school and if they aren’t here I doubt anyone has them.

thanks for the input guys… any more suggestions are welcome…
&& Pandem, I don’t have one now, since I haven’t used one in years, && I dont want to buy another one that will break in two months. Thanks tho…

I have this one and I’ve noticed quite a number of others on my campus who also use one. They are very durable. Mine still looks new and it is a year and a half old. It holds a 15 inch computer and has room for tons of stuff, if you want to carry all that. Pockets for everything.
