Best Bank for USC/LA area

So as of right now I am planning on ordering a debit/atm card from my bank, which is Wachovia. However, when I did research I found that there are not nearly as many Wachovias in Los Angeles as there are in Connecticut (where I'm from, lol i guess it's an east coast thing). I know about the USC Credit Union, but in my opinion it would be better if I have an ATM card with a major bank corporation since I will probably use the same card after college and since I will probably be using the card a lot off campus.

I know Wells Fargo owns Wachovia so if I wanted to I could set up a Wells Fargo atm card and then my parents could transfer money from their Wachovia account to my Wells Fargo account (only if necessary though, lol). Is this a good idea? Is Wells Fargo more of a "west coast bank?"

Wells Fargo and BoA will most likely have the most atm locations. BoA has 2 branches within a block or two of campus. Chase is also opening a location across the street in the new University gateway complex.

^ any idea when that’d open? that’d be really convenient for me

Chase told gateway this month but Chase downtown says September (per comment on gateway facebook wall) so it could be either.

I did a google search and found that the Citibank branch seems to be very close to the campus. In reality, is it a walk in distance from campus or my dorm (Birnkrant)?

Google maps says that the closest citibank branch is downtown. So no.

@Hawkwings: according to the Citibank branch locator, there is a Citibank branch (see below) which is about 0.6 miles from the campus. I have a Citibank account and ATM card, and wonder if this is a realistic walk in distance from Birnkrant. I believe there is also a Seven Eleven store nearby where there is Citibank ATM machine so I can use for withdrawl purpose if needed.

you’re going to hate having to go to vermont if you’re living in birnkrant.

So, I’ve decided to go with Wells Fargo mainly for the reason that it is a bank with a lot of locations in the LA area that my parents can still have access to without starting a new account with another bank.

But I’m just curious: are there any readers on here that have a USC Credit Union account? Have any of you experienced any difficulty with access to other banks off campus? I looked on the USC Credit Union website and only found 3 locations, has this created a problem for anyone?

I have a USCCU account. I don’t use it too much, but it’s never given me problems. I only go to the branch on-campus, or one of the ATMs in the Lot if I want to deposit/withdraw.

I’ve found Bank of America to be most convenient for me. There’s an ATM on campus and a branch office right next to the office.

They are currently installing two brand new BoA atm machines in the breezeway as you walk up to the new student center from the Trousdale side.
