i need to open up a bank account soon but i wanted to do it at a bank that's easily accessible from the sc campus. anyone have any suggestions?

If you just cross a street from the campus, Either Bank of America and Citi Bank can be reached.

However, I prefer BOA to Citi because it is located in more convenient and safer place, which is the north side in campus housing.

Also, there are ATM machines of BOA near the main cafeteria & bookstore in the campus.

If you like credit unions, there is the USC credit union which is the only financial institution ON CAMPUS. They are networked with other credit unions, so you can use the ATMs throughout the US/world at cooperating credit unions at no charge. They are closely linked with the business office, so it's easy to pay for USC bills thru them as well. You can find out more at

At Orientation, they have a table & you can sign up then & there. They also waive the $9 fee for setting up accounts during Orientation (or at least they did in HI 5/20).

i believe BOA has convenient ATMs arround campus

How hard/easy is it for a student to get a credit union VISA card without an annual fee?

I was impressed by the USC Credit Union. It seems quite good, and it's definitely accessible on campus and eleswhere.

You can call the credit union at the link I posted above (toll free) & ask them any Qs you have. The USC credit union gives good rates on $10,000+ in your money market account, if anyone has any money they don't immediately need for tuition.
For my S, I got a card in my name with him as an additional user for one of my Citi cards that gives a cash rebate & has a low limit. He's to let me know if he ever uses it so I don't challenge the charge on it & only to use it for emergencies--everything else should be coming from his USC credit union account, funded by his earnings & gifts. He will reimburse for whatever he charges as well.

reasonabledad- I think they may need a cosigner, which can be done over fax or phone.

Bank of America.
