I want a big school… I Have gotten into a bunch already. But I’m curious on which are the best ones for psychology- what I want to go into. Thanks!
Is this like a game? You have already applied? Which do you thing is best brynn336?
Uh. We’d need to see which unis you’ve been admitted to.
Look at one of her many other threads.
I heard that U of Minnesota has a strong psych dept
Illinois
Maryland
Penn state
Delaware
Indiana
Binghamton
Michigan, UIUC, Minnesota-Twin Cities and Wisconsin-Madison all have amazing Psychology departments.
Northwestern, Ohio State, Indiana-Bloomington and Penn State are all very good too.
All of the schools you’ve applied/been admitted to have strong psychology departments. UW and UIUC probably have the strongest graduate departments, followed by Penn State and Binghamton. But they are all good and you can’t go wrong - especially since departmental strength should not be a top consideration for undergrad for a variety of reasons.
Please, post all you want all over CC…I’m not trying to limit that at all. But you’ve asked the same question in several different ways just over the last 5 days here. I get the feeling that you are searching for some magic bullet or formula that’s going to help you make a choice. There are no concrete answers; everyone is going to have a different opinion. What matters is what YOU are looking for in a college. You’ve already said that Wisconsin is your first choice, but you got deferred there. If you get accepted and your parents can afford it, Wisconsin is an excellent choice and you should go there if that’s what you really want. If you don’t, then you have a bunch of great other schools to choose from. IIRC you’re from New York so Binghamton would offer tremendous savings for you, but the other schools probably have more of the vibe that you want with respect to sports and a traditional experience.
If it were me making the choice, Wisconsin would probably be my first choice, too, followed by Maryland. But that’s just me, based on my preferences (suburban or small urban areas). What do you really want? Take some time to think about and identify that. What are your preferences? What differentiates these schools in ways that are important to you?
You’re approaching this wrong. First off, if you want to work in the field you’ll need at least a Masters, perhaps a doctorate. Do you know what you need for your intended career?
You ought to be thinking about how to best prepare for grad school. And no school is going to “deliver” this for you. At any big school you can sit anonymously in classes and emerge as a weak candidate. It is going to be up to you to get to know some profs so you get good recs, to take part in research, to take part in student groups and activities, to volunteer. If somehow there was a “ranking” of the Psych program at all the schools you have applied, a kid from the worst in the list that did these things is going to be miles ahead of the one that went to the best on the list and didn’t put out any effort.
