What are the best/top ranked schools in bioengineering and which of them have equally good environmental studies/sustainability program?

I know Yale, Stanford, Brown, and Cornell lead the pack with the Ivy tier schools but what others are there? And what about non-universities such as Amherst, Williams, Wesleyan, etc.?

1) In general the ivy’s are NOT engineering powerhouses.

2) If we’re talking ivy’s, only Columbia and Harvard should be on that list (just by looking at the top 20)… and Columbia doesn’t even hit the list until spot 18. (Although Stanford’s somewhere around 12)

3) You really need to do better research if you’re just going to throw out random schools.
a. Amherst doesn’t have bioengineering.
b. Williams and Wesleyan don’t have engineering at all.

4) Stanford is not an ivy. The ivy league is first and foremost an athletic conference. Not the be all end all of universities, especially in engineering. And “ivy tier” really doesn’t mean anything, other than ‘top 20 university.’

Where on earth are you picking these schools from? It seems like you went “oh, these schools are all super prestigious so they MUST have excellent bioengineering programs!” without a second thought.

Yes I know they are not but I am interested in schools that have great environmental programs first and bioengineering second. Stanford is often grouped into the “Ivy tier” level schools - HYPSM, I’m not calling it an Ivy itself.

I was giving examples of schools I had been looking into to give an indication on the type of quality of education I was interested in - Amherst, Williams, and Wesleyan all have interesting programs and environmental studies programs and no they do not have engineering programs but I was hoping somebody could provide information on what similar colleges to those DO.

Again I want to know what schools - LIKE the ones I listed - have great bioengineering programs ALONGSIDE environmental studies programs. ES is my primary focus.

Oh and I have not ruled out biomedical engineering as a possible focus for me. So yes I do know that they have that program too and yes I am interested in that and that it what I FIRST started researching years ago before wondering if I really want to go into medicine.

OP, you need to clarify: 1. Are you interested in biomedical engineering or biological engineering? 2. Are you looking for a biological engineering program with an environmental/sustainabilty focus, or are you looking for a school with separate programs in biological engineering and environmental studies/sustainability?

If you are looking for biological engineering rather than biomedical engineering, you need to look at departments of agricultural & biological engineering in state land grant universities. (Sometimes, you also will find departments with the title chemical & biological engineering.) You also might check out environmental engineering programs (sometimes a separate program, but often found in civil & environmental engineering depts.) Many of these departments also have a strong focus on environmental issues.
Also, for environmental studies/sustainability don’t overlook the colleges of agriculture & natural resources in state land grant universities. Many of these have very strong programs and innovative options in these areas, especially if you are interested in the applied aspects.
