Best Boarding Schools

@ swissbrit: OMG, are you even serious about that question? This thread has over 86,000 views! And you want it buried? Mark my words, right after I post this, someone will weigh in that Exeter and Andover are the best.

Best…Thread…Ever.

This thread is officially ranked #1 on the Prep School Forum by a wide margin. And though my own contributions were at times regrettably gruff and unregrettably childish, I don’t think there’s another thread where fun is fun was so totally schooled and humiliated for trying to claim the WBGTY rating system should be used over Bunkel. And, omg…can anyone top the comic stylings of icy####98 in this thread? Ever?

I am so thrilled to have this thread re-established to its rightful position at the top of the list and I wish to thank those who are responsible for it (which, in a couple seconds when I post this, will be me). I just don’t have any idea why Roger Dooley doesn’t make it sticky to the top of the page!

andover and exeter

BTW, swissbrit, my top-rated regret about this thread is that you beat me to claiming Post #500, but I vow to beat you when it comes time to claim Post #1,000.

The best school by far is Konai prep. Right on the beach. Surfing class required. Dress code is no thongs.

ps I don’t Roger Dooley has been around for quite some time. At least that is what his ‘log in’ says.

Well, that would explain why he hasn’t made this thread sticky yet. We can only hope he is well or recovers soon.

On to 1,000!

where does Punahou sit in the tiers?

This thread is too false and debatable since there is no true Best Boarding school. Anyways i prefer Applicants of 2010, lol good times.

Tell us more about Konai … it sounds pretty nice

I don’t think Konai exists…

Two years ago (?) the WSJ posted an article listing the top high schools in the country. Exeter was #1 at the time. There are other great boarding schools that did not make this list: Miss Porter’s and Avon in Conn are two of them. Bottom line is to make sure you fit in. Lawrenceville had a scandal that was kept out of the papers dealing with the son of a big donor who thought it wold be funny to paint a swastika on the dorm room door of a classmate. ‘Boys will be boys’ and the offender got a mild punishment when he should have been expelled. When my son was looking at boarding schools, there’s one thing you need to keep in mind: too many kids are put into boarding schools because it’s easier on the parents. The last thing you need when you’re living several hundred miles from home is to be rooming with an entitled, spoiled brat.

Le Rosey? Really, helasmart?

What about Trinity School, Dalton School, Horace Mann, and Collegiate???

AES, no doubt.

Very good point, Delbarton Mom. Our family is avoiding the schools that are on most folks’ top ten lists, as we hope a little bit more socio-ec diversity (like 25 to 30% on FA and not tons of day/super-rich legacies). We also don’t want to do the big school thing.

Our top, for now, for us are:

Thacher
Pomfret
Berkshire
Cate
Episcopal

in no particular order.

It is all pretty personal, what works for one person isn’t right for another.

episcopal? i wouldn’t go further into that if you want diversity. berkshire also has little diversity but is nice.

keep in mind the schols in most ppl’s top ten on here are usually ones w/ large amnts of FA and diversity. i suggest doing some research.

You lost me on 8 - 10. Never heard of Culver, though I have heard MPS (Miss Porter’s School) is one of the hardest boarding schools to get into now, anyone know acceptance rate?

I know “top, best, most prestigious,” does not necessarily mean lowest acceptance rate. By reputation, I think some of the other Grottlesex schools are as good as Groton, Middlesex for example.

My top 10 would be:
Andover, Exeter, Choate, Deerfield, Groton, Lawrencville, Hotchkiss, St. Paul’s, Milton, MPS or Middlesex.

MX is quite a lot better than MPS

obviously im biased but im just saying

its

GLADCHEMMS

Exeter, Deerfield, Lawrenceville, Andover, and St. Paul’s seem to be the top 5 in my school. umm I’m sorry to be so much of a newbie but what is gladchemms?

Groton
