best book for chemistry sat II review

im planning to take it in november after not studying chemistry in a year.. which is best for a complete review?

i dunno, but i can tell you Barron's is pretty bad. i mean, it will give you all the information, but it will also go overboard and give you info that will not show up on the test and will be a waste of your time.

Barron's is complete waste. Disregard the general advice to overprepare---I knew that book backwards and forwards and I still got totally blown away by June 06 test. The practice tests were NOTHING like it...Honestly, the best review book (I somehow have a large collection) was NY Regents Chemistry...PR was way too relaxed and hardly covered anything (practice tests were easy in that)...& I heard Kaplan was complete crap. Also, McGraw Hill is completely DISORGANIZED. It was really hard to find anything in it, and the pratice tests seemed really easy when I was looking through my friend's book.

McGrawHill's good if you need to review--I like the way they explain things. I used Barron's for practice tests b/c they're slightly harder than the real thing.

^^ same. For the concepts I didn't know Barron's made no sense because it was too detailed and confusing, so I used PR because they basically tell you what you need to know and what you don't need to know. After I used PR to get the basics I looked at Barron's to go a little deeper because alot of people say PR is too simple. Anyway, then I did I practice tests from Barron's cause they are harder. I used PR right before the test to overview too.

Hope that helps.

All prep books were crap for preparing for the June 2007 chem. I did PR and Barrons and looked over Kaplan and McGraw hill. I felt as if I would get an 800 for sure considering I got an 800 on every practice test i took including the one released by CB. I ended up being completely screwed.

Anyway, if the test you're going to take is not as hard as the June one, I would suggest PR because in my opinion, their chemistry review was great, practice tests in PR suck though

used Barron's, managed to get 800 on last of their practice tests, blown away in June.

So no, Barron's isnt anything special.

Also, everyone on here ranted about how difficult Barron's tests were in comparison to the real SAT II. That was completely untrue. It was the same difficulty if not more challenging. Also, when I believed that it was more difficult I completely let myself off the hook for getting low-ish scores on the practice tests...so don't listen to what people have to say about things being more/less difficult than the real SAT. Just assume the real SAT is more difficult.

I think the more accurate practice tests are:

The Real CB test (duh)
There is this McGraw compilation of subject tests. The 2 Chem tests in that book are pretty good
Princeton was pretty good.

I'm not going to say anything about the reviews because I just relied on my knowledge from AP Chem.

The AP PR book is good. Just ignore everything with hard math, equillibirum constants, titrations, electrochemistry, and the more advanced organic chemistry.

lol, you might be right...i was just looking over it

AnonPerson1 and Piterbizon I totally agree.. I used Barrons and a couple other review books and been getting like high 600s and low 700s on the practice tests, but when it came to the June test, i was ***!! this is nothing like it... I didn't know so much stuff.. I was blown away... I'm lucky to even get 600 on the june test.

Good thing I didn't even open the review book! It would have just been a waste of time, apparently. I did a practice test though.

ok you guys are not going to do THAT badly. this is exactly how i felt June of last year after using Barron's and getting up to high 700s on the practice tests, then completely being raped by the test. i still got a 730. Barron's just made me memorize random stuff i could've spent doing other more useful things.

use PR, but go to the bookstore and take a practice test from barrons.

I used barrons and just used the practice tests from the College Board SAT 2 book and Princeton Review. For content review I read the AP Chem PR book and half of Barrons

how does taking a hs chem A class (this doesnt equate with AP, though) and then studying the AP PR chem book sound for doing the sat ii in may/ june?
