best book to improve writing?

I'm having a bit of trouble with my writing. I've been scoring like 630 consistently. What do you think is the best book to improve my writing score? Any specific grammar books that i could use? Thanks.

Barron's Writing Workbook is very helpful - it covers all the grammar you need to know for the SAT, complete with examples! and it also has a few practice tests.

However, I found quaere's suggestion for Strunk and White's Elements of Style to be the best thing that happened to me for writing. The thread is a bit old, but it was quite helpful to me.

Once you get the grammar rules down, just practice as much as you can with realistic (aka. CB) tests. You start to pick up patterns, so when you look at a sentence, you can auto recognize that its a subject-verb agreement error, etc.

I think mcgraw-hill is also good--it's supposedly harder than the SAT's
after the blue book practices of course

Go to your local bookstore and look at the Gruber's writing section. It is a very extensive section that talks about all the different rules for each part of speech and explains to you all the differing conditions of when they can be used. Definitely look at Gruber's, but I recommend to go through your book store and look through all their different books(Barron's, Kaplan, Rocket Review, etc).
