best buisness school and chance of acceptance in FL

I currently have a 3.4 GPA in suffolk community college in long island NY in buisness administration and plan on improving it for next semester to get somewhere higher than a 3.5 and already have my associates degree when I transfer with 69 credits. Is there a good chance ill get into this school or any tips for me?

Plan next semester in joining the buisness club and be some sort of leader role
i wanted the college experience so im applying to UF and FSU (perferebly florida)

How will you afford it?? Your cost OOS at those schools will be $36-40K/year.

UF only accepts ~40% of transfer applicants. FSU is a little bit higher %age and their entering freshman grades are lower so you would have a better chance there.

Are you a NY resident? Have you looked at SUNYs which are 1/2 the cost of FL schools?

I wanted the college experience and going into these schools ill be bringing an associates degree with me. As money wise most likely im going to have to take a loan out. With my profession in buisness hopefully i can get a job that can pay for the two years ill be going there. I was planning on going to baruch college in Manhattan which is 4 gran a year but I want to save that for grad school and get my masters. There is no college experience going there now. Also I didnt like the other SUNYS over here. The best SUNYS are all upstate and i hate the cold, dark weather environment they have there. My dream school is to go to University of Florida and I just want to do whatever it takes to go there.

When you apply, make sure you spell it as “business”, not “buisness”.

Yea i just realized my spell error oopss haha…anyone out there is there any chance I can get into UF or FSU as an out of state, it says for transfer students only pertaining to florida colleges…if thats the case then my dreams for goin to a florida university are out the picture

How would you get loans for $72-80K for UF and FSU? You would need a cosigner. That would be >$1K/month for 10 years to repay.

YOU cannot borrow that much, nor should you.

How much will your parents pay?

If they can’t pay much and they won’t co-sign loans, then you won’t have the money.

As a junior and senior, you can only borrow 7500 per year.

If you want to go into business, don’t make the mistake by starting off with poor business sense by having too much debt.

You won’t be earning enough as a newish grad to pay back big loans. As Erin’s Dad explained, such loans would cost you $1,000 a month for 10 long years. Certainly not worth 2 years at a FL public. That’s like 3 extra car payments in addition to all of your regular expenses. How may newish grads do YOU know who can afford 3 extra car payments in addition to all of their regular expenses.

What is plan B? What SUNY can you go to?

Do your undergrad and grad at Baruch, find a good internship, and share a nice apartment in Queens or Brooklyn, and you’re set.

No one’s going to loan you $80k without a co-signer, so it isn’t even worth considering.

you guys deffinately have valid points that I need to consider, even though my dad said he was going to help me go to florida and pay 15 gran or a lil more if its necssary. Ive went to suffolk community college for two years now and each semester was just 2 gran and Ive saved soo much money from other people that started dorming their first year. But I need that college experience to go along with a good buisnes program orelse i feel like im going to regret it. For baruch, im missing that cause its still a commuter school and if i want to stay here i might need to go to a suny upstate even though i hate cold weather environment. I was thinking looking into binghampton, and other ideas of schools to go to for management buisness?

Ive saved soo much money from other people that started dorming their first year.

How much do you have saved IN THE BANK since you went to a CC first?

Your dad’s $15k per year is a help, but UF and FSU cost about $35k-40k per year OOS. Where would the other $20k per year come from? YOU can’t borrow that much.

BTW…did your dad say $15k PER YEAR or 15k total??? If you’re not sure, ask him.

yeah come to think of it 20 gran is still a lot… I just dont understand some of my friends from long island went to the university of florida and university of tampa for 2 years now and I dont see how they could of done that, from the high loans? I have to ask them…but im trying to look right now what are the best buisness schools in new york but I cant find what school is better for buisness…baruch or binghampton, anyone has any insight on this??

I think you might be asking the wrong question. SUNY Binghamton will provide you with “the college experience” you are looking for. Which might be just what you want. But you won’t be able to find anything in the way of “in-term” internships or work that is relevant to your field. Baruch has the potential of putting you directly into a working environment (if you can are a go-getter, and can find internships tht relate to your field) while you are in school. On the other hand, you won’t find the traditional “college experience”. But if you plan someday to work in NYC, you’ll already have your housing, etc. under control, and perhaps some networks already developed, rather than starting from scratch.

Just found us news university site:

Suny Binghampton ranked 107
Suny Bernard Baruch College ranked 85
University of Florida ranked 47

For university of Florida:
Full-time Students Employed at Graduation: 36%
Average Starting Salary and Bonus: $75,403
SCORE: 52

I was thinking cause I have no expenses ( not even car or cellphone im paying for ) and I can start saving right now for this school . Probably need to apply to scholarships and financial aid etc. But if my friends was able to go, i don’t see how I can’t…
my plan was to go to university of florida for 2 years and I will have my 65 thousand for school and come back to baruch, not even buy an apartment save the money and commute on train while have a job. Its not hard to pay off the loan according to stats of the pay check of starting job.

im open to any opinons cause I want to make sure I make the right choice…

@ mini…you have a good point, baruch is deffinately the top schools on my list…its just hard right now cause i really like university of florida just as much as baruch…i would want to go to both but i dont knoww

Just had a talk with my parents and my dad is saying baruch is best fit for me for all the reasons you guys mention. He said by going to baruch i have any headaches paying it off cause he’ll pay it for me and told me he works close to baruch and can get me an internship. I think i just been stubborn in the fact I wanted for mainly the college experience with gorgous weather and girls…but i have to put education first

As you’ve figured out now, you don’t take out large loans for “gorgeous girls” and sunny weather for 2 years.

As for your friends…who knows how they paid for their 2 years at UF. Maybe their parents paid, maybe they had a Fl pre-paid (Florida has some odd rules about their pre-paids), or ???
