What are the best business clubs and frats on campus, and is there anything different about them?
Hello!! When I was a freshman I was super clueless about what business clubs to join, so hopefully this will be helpful for some people
*As a disclaimer, there’s so many business groups on campus, so I’m sure you’ll find one that’s suited for you, and this is really just my opinion.
The most selective business clubs on campus come down to 2 types: consulting groups and business fraternities. You can join other general business clubs on campus if you’re not super sure what you want to do, and I recommend those if you’re just looking to get involved with things on campus. Those are clubs like BIG, CIB, ABA, PBL, Ascend, Berkeley Women in Business, HBSA.
Within consulting groups, there’s tons - VCG, Voyager, CMG, Net Impact, etc etc. etc. New ones form basically every semester lol. The most difficult to get into are probably The Berkeley Group and Berkeley Consulting, as they’ve been around the longest, have the most alumni, best clients. They’re super super competitive to join, especially as a freshman.
For business fraternities, the two people know the best on campus are AKPsi and DSP. There’s a few others like BAP, PSE, SEP that are more geared towards specific interests like entrepreneurship/marketing. AKPsi and DSP are really known for sending tons of people into investment banking and consulting firms. I think AKPsi generally has a stronger recruiting presence at top tier firms for New York, so if you’re looking to work there you might find more alumni connections in AKPsi.
Good luck and don’t stress too much - everybody at Berkeley generally finds a community
Hello! I was super clueless as a freshman going into business at Berkeley, so hopefully this helps!
**as a disclaimer, there’s a ton of great biz orgs on campus, you should really just try to find one where you like the people
Generally speaking, the most selective clubs on campus are business fraternities and consulting groups. If you’re not sure what you want to do, there’s also general business clubs like ABA, BWIB, Ascend, BIG, etc. I recommend exploring these if you just want to meet people and get involved with things on campus.
For consulting groups, UC Berkeley has so many. New ones pop up every semester, and they cover a bunch of different industries and interests (nonprofits, tech, startups, healthcare). Just to name a few, there’s Net Impact, VCG, Voyager, CMG. The most selective ones are The Berkeley Group and Berkeley Consulting. These have been around the longest, have the most alumni, best clients, and are really hard to get into as a freshman.
Among the business fraternities, these are generally for people looking for a social environment and professional/academic resources/support. The most well-known ones on campus are AKPsi and DSP. There’s a few others like PSE, BAP, SEP, that are geared towards more specific interests like entrepreneurship and marketing. AKPsi and DSP have reputations for sending people to top investment banking and consulting firms, and they’re crazy competitive to get into. AKPsi has a rep for being the best in recruiting for finance and consulting in New York, so if you’re interested in working there they might have a better alumni network for you.
Overall, there’s so many clubs on campus that you can be sure to find one that fits your needs. Feel free to DM me if you want to ask more!
Seems like title of this question is more geared at business frats so i’ll focus on that. Currently a senior who applied three times to both DSP and AKPsi and never got in either. But I have a lot of friends in both. AKPsi is more prestigious because they recruit better and are more well known throughout campus. Their brothers are known to be very social and genuine, and their influence reaches many other business clubs. DSP is also great since they recruit well in banking and consulting, but their area of influence is mainly focused in SF and those two career paths. They also have great people. I know less about BAP to be honest. They’re definitely the lowest of the three top business frats, but I’ve heard they also recruit well?? When I was applying, my number one choice was AKPsi. I personally felt that they were more genuine and they seemed to want to get to know me more. They also encouraged me to rush DSP (DSP did not encourage me to rush AKPsi) which I thought was admirable since it demonstrates how they really wanted the best for me. Too bad they didn’t want me
