I've been hearing that Economics is a great major because they are more likely to become employed and is great for obtaining Consulting jobs. Since I am also interested in Business, I was wondering what would be the best business major to combine with Economics.

I was thinking that Operations Management may be a good major to combine with Economics for consulting work. Would this be a useful combination?

I am also interested in Finance, but would a Economics & Finance combination be useless? Thanks

Statistics would be a great choice, especially, if you want to do any work with Econometrics. Political Science would be good if you’re interested in Political Economics.

Sounds like you’re really interested in Consulting – If I were you I’d be worried that whatever outlet you choose will not harness your Passion For Consulting.

one of the more lucrative major to combine with Economics is computer science.

What kind of consulting are you talking about? Too many CCers are vague about this…

I’m not 100% sure that I would like to become a consultant, but I am interested in Management Consulting. Becoming a financial analyst also looks appealing to me.

However, which business major combined with economics would give me the greatest opportunities after I graduate. My goal is to also obtain an MBA after receiving myy undergraduate degree.

What S_A is refering to is that there are many careers inside MGMT Consulting. Jobs in IT systems, Market Research, Small Business, Start Up and etc. Econ is a good choice, though I’m biased because that’s what I’m going for, but I would pair it with a business major if you can. At least a minor in Accounting, MIS or Finance. Operations MGMT, or Supply Chain MGMT, sounds like a good idea to me. If it is what it sounds like, you should be able to understand how to implement planning.
