has anyone been contacted yet? When do they let you know about semi and finalist status?

I applied. I think it said on their website they would be mailing something in march if you were a semifinalist or whatever.

I applied also but did not hear anythnig yet? is it as big as the coca cola or target? if it's not, then i'm happy!

Its definitely not as big...I think they have a good portion of "semi-finalists" and two awards are given from each store.

i think that they get back to you by March 10th for semi-finalist status. Does anyone know for sure? How big a part does other extra-curriculars and grades play?

I just saw the email message they sent my D after she did this - it says that they will notify semi-finalists "by the end of March." There is no definite date - so it could be anytime.

My son received a letter yesterday (dated Mar. 10th) stating that he was a Best Buy Scholarship Finalist. He now has to send back the verification/publicity forms and wait to see if he gets any $$$$'s!

Hi Guys, I just found this and decided to share it with you all
good luck and I am waiting too can't wait I saw a few of you were asking money wise and date so here it is and a web address at the bottom too
Best Buy Scholarships
Awards will be granted in the following categories:
For every Best Buy store one scholarship of $1,000 and one of $2,000 will be awarded to students living within 50 miles of that Best Buy store.

50 awards of $1,000 each will be awarded to the most qualified applicants living more than 50 miles from a Best Buy store.

Eight national $25,000 scholarships will be awarded based on strength of student's application.
Recipients will be posted on this website during the first week in May. All recipients will receive formal notification from Scholarship America, the program administrator.

the websit said that recipents would be posted on the website early ay, do you think they would notify the winners ahead of time? Has anybody heard or received anything?

My son hasn't received anything since he got the finalist letter, but hopefully he's still in the running. He did receive word on Saturday that he was selected for a $5,000 local scholarship (renewable for all four years for a total of $20,000) so we're ecstatic over that one!! You had to reside in one of 18 south-central Minnesota counties to be eligible to apply, and needed to be a declared math/science major. Getting some financial help like that through an outside scholarship provides some major relief. I wish everyone here could be greeted with the same kind of news in their mailbox someday soon! Good luck to all.

congrats brainomatic, based on last year's posts, winners prob. won't be notified until next monday-tuesday

They are posted on the website! It doesn't say the amount won for the state winners though. I'm listed!

Daughter is listed, as well, and there are two winners from our area - who knows if she got $1000 or $2000! Either way - yahoo! :-) Congrats to everyone who got one - especially the $25k winners!

thanks for the info, here's the link

for some reason my name is only listed when i select it to show all states, but when i try to narrow it down to only one state my name isn't there, along w/ other names

When I tried to just show Alabama, it listed the TEACHERS who won scholarships - not the students. That may be what you are seeing as well.

Elementary school kids won my area? Is that possible? I along with my friend (MIT 2010) applied and didn't win. That'd rather odd IMO.

Im posted too!!!! YAYYYYY!!! PHEWWWW i got so sad when i didnt see my name on the teacher list!

are they going to send an email? or just a letter?

3 kids from my school and 1 teacher. yes you have to look at all states to see the kids and one state only to see the teachers.

Thanks for posting the link i will cross link to the other thread on this

yea i think i got the same problem...why's that?
