What is the best calculator that most teachers allow? I am wondering if it would be best to buy the TI-83, TI-84, or TI-89 for school. I want to be able to use it most of the time, and not just with certain teachers. I want the calculator to be able to be used on most tests and classes. If i need to buy a second calculator, i will. Thanks.

Def not the 89. Can’t be used on most tests.

no…definitely do buy the ti-89… its always allowed and a siginifcant help with calculus (ap)

ok

huh? i didnt put xxxx (mwl - 2.19.2009) –>
in it…

Ti89’s are often banned, but the 83 or 84 (basically just a slightly nicer looking 83 with more memory).

k, but any differences between the 83 and 84 that makes one more worth buying?

89 is banned in most colleges and schools because it does most math especially calculus for you.

84 is just a more newer version and newer look than the 83

What would a teacher prefer… an 84 or 83?

Teachers don’t care (their capabilities are the same).

Ok… but is there a difference in the interface?

84 has a lot more memory. I have the exact same stuff my friend has on his full 83 and I have about 23000 RAM left. If you’re going to get Apps it’s worth it imo.

Edit: Does anyone know anything about the Ti-nspire?

They are basically the same exact thing. The only difference is color and what inside. The buttons/commands are in the same positions.

I think the nspire is more like a business. it isn’t as powerful as the 89 but has more functions. i think it is more complicated than 89 but i don’t have anything more than a scientific calc so idk.

Good ole TI-83… Dropped in multiple times, left it outside in sub-zero temperatures all night, let it bake in the California sun that went over 100, splashed soda all over it…

still works fine.

I am in love with my TI-84 Silver. :}

Gryffon, when did you ever get sub zero temperatures in LA?

Just get a TI84. The 89 is so much more complicated compared to the 83 and 84.

lol… our school went to Calculus camp in the San Bernandino mountains for four days after spring break.

It was cold as hell up there(with ice on the ground) and I accidentally left my calculator on one of the benches outside overnight.

^Maybe he put it in the freezer.
