best calculator for ap stats

I was wondering what the best calculator for ap stats would be..
i have a ti 84 now..but it doesn't have like 3-4 of the tests that are needed...b/c it's os is 2.21..
i tried updating it the other day, and resulted in ruining my calculator.i was able to fix it..but i don't want to try that again..and i would be giving my calculator to my sister who is in pre calc next yr..so either way we will need to get another calculator..
i am also taking calculus and physics but i don't think that is as big of a deal to which calculator is needed..
i want to buy a new calculator and was wondering is the ti-89 the best? or stick with 84, but with the appropiate os number..??

Mathematica>89>all, but your school may not allow you to use it, in which case its mostly a waste.

I have no clue what OS i have, but I have an 84 plus I bought three years ago and scored a 5 on it last year. 89’s suck for stats unless you’ve been using it for that class all year. Stick with a borrowed 83 or 84… I’ve never heard of anyone having a problem with either of those on the exam.

I have an 84, and it seems to do the job just right. Plus, I’m sure you can find additional programs online for stats, and just hook it up to your computer and download away.

i tried downloading it from my computer…but my calc like malfunctioned…if i don’t have the 3-4 tests…it won’t be a huge significant problem will it??~

All you need is a graphing calculator with a stats mode that has distributions and tests. Having the most expensive TI won’t bump your score that much if at all especially if you don’t know how to use it. I used a pos pre 2000 Casio and got an easy 5. I would personally recommend an 83 or 84 though.

I have both an TI 84+ and an 89. I personally liked to used my TI 84+ for AP stats because it was more convenient and I got a 5 last year but I use my TI 89 for BC Calc

i am taking it this tue. i plan to use my 83 and bring my 89 as i am more used to it for basic math functions.

you can bring two calcs. acc. to collegeboard.

If you know how to use the ti89 then definitely bring that. Otherwise just use the calculator you know best.

I would recommend the TI inspire if you can afford it. The input for the statistic tests is given for those calculators, so you don’t have to remember what to put for BinomialCdf (x,y,z), for example.

TI Nspire CAS.

wait,t he ti nspire tells you how to put the formuals in!!??

would the ti nspire be the best for ap stats??

The NSpire CAS is the best TI calc out there that’s allowed for use on standardized tests like the SAT.

There’s a harsh learning curve though, as the OS is completely different from previous versions.

It has built-in templates which shows you how to enter formulas, and you can also make your own templates for formulas that aren’t included. So yeah, BEAST.

oh but i guess it would be hard to learn everything in 2 days…i guess i’ll just stick with my 84…or see if i can borrow someone’s with a higher os…

i’d say to stick with an 84, because you probably don’t know how the use the 89, even though it’s self-explanatory. the only tricky part would be matrices, but otherwise, i’d prefer an 89 because everything else for stats is so easy to use on it.

the ti-89 saves calculus lives. just know that the act doesn’t allow it
