I wanna apply to University of California for an undergraduate Computer Science program. Any clues on which campus of theirs is the best for that, in terms of academic program, research for undergrads, internship opportunities, faculty, labs and facilities?

Btw, I'm an international student, if that should affect my decision in any way.

I'm thinking of Berkeley, LA and San Diego.

The OP should get into Berkeley with his superb stats. Only quite a few get 42/42 in IB.

OP, Stanford, Berkeley, Caltech and Mudd (in the order) are the best California schools for computer science. Your stats are strong and would place you in the top half of the student bodies of those four schools. If you want a strong Silicon Valley connection, Stanford and Berkeley are the best places to gain for that.

With those stats, I’d be shooting for Stanford. It’s just about the same price as a UC with none of the budget crisis problems the UCs are having. You’ll get a much more active alumni network for internship opportunities in Silicon Valley and a better college experience.

@RML, thanks for your confidence in me I am actually applying to Stanford, CalTech and Mudd. However, I finished my Stanford EA, and now am wondering which University of California campuses I should apply to. @2college2college, like I said, Stanford’s my top choice, but I gotta figure out which UCs to apply to.

@mom2collegekids, I would apply to all the UCs if I had unlimited resources, but the application is quite costly when converted to my currency. I’m pretty confident I will get into UCLA and SD if I apply. Any reason you added UC Irvine to the list? Is it good for CS?

Aside from Berkeley and LA, I would recommend SD, SB, Davis and Irvine too. Although none of these lower-ranked UCs have the same connection with SV like Berkeley has, they are excellent schools with very nice campuses and superb student bodies. The social scene at these UCs are fantastic and are superb hosts to international students from all over the world.

I would apply to all the UCs if I had unlimited resources, but the application is quite costly when converted to my currency.

???

Then how the heck are you going to afford Berkeley, UCLA, or San Diego? Are you prepared to pay $50,000 per year to go to those schools? If not, don’t apply to them. Those are public Us…they don’t give ANY aid to international students.

I think what the OP was saying is that it is impractical to apply to all UCs as each UC application would cost something like $40. S/he didn’t mention about tuition fees. I could be wrong, however.

Yes, @RML kinda got it. I know the application fees pale in comparision of the tuition and board, especially for us out-of-state applicants. What I meant was, I don’t wanna go through the whole application process if I’m never gonna consider going to the college even if I do get admission there. Besides the money, theres time involved too, because you have to fill in some extra details for each college besides the general part which goes to all UCs.

So if I gotta apply to 2-4 UCs, which ones would you suggest?
