I want to major in software/computer and I was wondering what the best CSU’s are for that intended major. I’ve been looking and SJSU, CalPoly SLO, CalPoly Pomona, Long Beach, San Francisco State, and Sac State seem to be good schools but I’m not really sure how “good” those colleges are. I was wondering how they compare to each other and which has a “better” program?
I’d say you have the order correct in your list above. A few more to consider are SDSU, Chico an Sonoma All will give a solid education and open the door to well paying jobs. The top of your list is really competitive (4.0 and 1400) - while the bottom is much less so. Tell us more about your qualifications and interests an we can give you more guidance.
Only CPSLO and SJSU offer explicit software engineering majors. However, computer science as a major is much more widely offered, and often a better substitute anyway.
CP San Luis Obispo > CP Pomona > San Jose State > Sacramento State > Long Beach State > San Francisco State
Just a reminder that no other state school in California will ever beat Pomona or SLO, they are really gifted in engineering, make sure to visit both of those schools. San Jose State is superior also, but it’s not the most popular major there. The rest is OK, Sacramento State focuses on Computer the most by far, despite of it not being the most popular. As a resident of the city in Long Beach State, I’ve heard some good things about LBSU, but they don’t focus on engineering the most if you compare other majors. San Francisco State I don’t know, I just looked at the degrees they offered in STEM and it’s good, great employment location too.
I would probably put San Diego State somewhere in-between San Jose and Long Beach.
^^^^ SDSU is great also.
