Best Campus Gardens

Indiana University in Bloomington has some beautiful greenspaces…Dunn Meadow and Dunn Woods are tucked into the heart of campus. In Dunn Woods, you feel as if you are far from civilization. A wooded strip with a steam runs through campus, with benches and rocky ledges to stop and study or rest.

The Arborteum, located near the library, is also lovely.

I know someone mentioned UVA already, but the gardens there are truly amazing. I am in love with the serpentine walls!

The Claremont Colleges (Pomona, Harvey Mudd, Scripps, Claremont McKenna and Pitzer, plus a couple of glad schools) have some connection to this garden. It is within walking distance:

The Holy Cross campus is, in fact, a registered arboretum—a collection of maintained specimen trees—that the layman can enjoy and the arborist can study.

There are about 1,000 trees on the 176 acre campus, representing as many as 600 different species.

This isn’t exactly a botanical garden but it’s worth mentioning. Stanford has the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve–1200 acres of green land, with lots of rare flora and fauna, etc. just south of the campus.

High Point University has amazing gardens spread all over its campus. They have done a great job documenting everything on this website: [High Point University Botanical Gardens & Arboretum Gardens](http://gardens.highpoint.edu/)

HPU is beautiful this time of year. Very impressive landscaping.

I haven’t visited too many schools but I don’t think any school can compete with Swarthmore. The entire campus is an arboretum.

I have visited many colleges throughout the United States, and Duke had the best campus gardens by far.

While the UW-Madison Botany Garden doesn’t compare to many of the others cited in beauty or grandeur, I especially enjoy it. I walk through it every morning, after the bus drops me off, on the way to up to my office. It is a nice way to start the day especially now that it is beginning to bloom. I particularly like it during the height of summer when they put the Koi out in the little ponds in the garden. I often spend a few minutes just looking at the fish.

Holyoke College has beautiful gardens, designed by the same guy who designed central park.

Duke and even UBC have amazing beautiful inspiring gardens

I can’t imagine a more beautiful setting than in British Columbia. I think it is the most gorgeous place in all of North America that I have seen.
