I’ve seen a lot of campuses, and I really like the Rice campus best. It is completely enclosed by a 3 mile running/walking path. There are great trees and the surrounding neighborhoods (except for med center area) are safe and pretty.

I also like the Vanderbilt campus, especially once you are really ON campus and not driving around the perimeter. Sewanee is gorgeous (on a mountaintop) but very small and remote.

Duke has a very nice campus

SMU in Dallas.

Florida and Florida State are both awesome

yeah i really like vandy’s…dukes is good too. the gardens are great

any others?

tulane…

Rice is gorgeous.

Sweet Briar College, University Of Richmond, Elon University, Warren Wilson College, Samford University, Sewanee-The University Of The South

For those better informed than I am- is Rice’s campus a part of the Texas Medical Center? I am curious because I will be interviewing for grad schools in that center (Baylor COM and UT Houston) and want to get a feel for the area.

UNC-Chapel Hill.

And Dook may be physically in the south, but in actuality its just an extension of New Jersey. :-P

Rice is adjacent to the medical center (as in, directly across the street). The medical center is its own little world surrounded by Rice, which is right next to Hermann park and the museum district. Come to Houston! You’ll love it!

The South is blessed to have so many excellent colleges with gorgeous campuses. Compared with peer schools in other parts of the country, I think that the Southern schools win in a rout. Probably this has something to do with the warmer weather and the fact that these campuses enjoy more months with pretty scenery, green grass and bright, sunny flowers. Sometimes knowing that spring is not far away can make the winter months a lot more tolerable.

IMO, the following are the most beautiful campuses for National Universities ranked in the USWNR Top 30:

South (6 schools): Duke, Rice, Vanderbilt, U Virginia, U North Carolina, Wake Forest

Midwest (3 schools): Wash U, Northwestern, Notre Dame

West (1 school): Stanford

Northeast (4 schools): Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, Cornell

I forgot to add the University of South Carolina. That campus is absolutely beautiful, very historic and scenic. The fitness center is brand new, however, and looks like a resort. When I visited I had a hard time believing that it was actually part of the university; it looks like it should be a beach resort or something.

William & Mary, Duke, Vanderbilt, Emory, Rice, Davidson, Washington & Lee, Richmond are beautiful and very livable. UNC/UVa are also beautiful but much more spread out due to size. Nothing like waiting in the rain for a campus bus.

Add Agnes Scott to those mentioned. The campus is extremely attractive, and many of the buildings are recently renovated and exceedingly nice.

Furman also has a very beautiful campus.

One side of Rice is directly across from the huge medical center complex. The medical center isn’t the nicest part of the area. The apartments in that exact vicinity are gated for security. If you have any questions, my son in law just graduated from UT Houston medical school and shared a condo in that area. My daughter lived on the other side of Rice in a nicer area.

Google some photos of Furman if you want to be wowed.

The only time that I’ve ever had to take the bus at UNC has been on weekend nights when I’ve been going to parties in south campus. And that’s just because I was lazy. You can walk anywhere, it just might take a little while if you have to go from the southern tip to the northern tip of campus.

EMORY UNIVERSITY for SURE
