I was just wondering which Wireless Service Company (i.e. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc.) has the best coverage in Davis.

verizon gets coverage all over campus and in most of the buildings. AT&T is completely unreliable and has no service in most of the buildings. They both work well enough off campus. Not sure about any of the other providers.

Sweet I have Verizon.
Thanks so much for the info!

AT&T does not work very well in lecture halls at all. Outdoors and in the dorms I have no trouble with reception, though.

Speaking of cellphone service, don't forget to apply for the UC Davis discount! (This may renew your contract so make sure you're going to stick with the provider)
AT&T (15% off your voice plan): https://business.cingular.com/business/enrollment/?_requestid=338740
Verizon (15% off your voice plan): https://b2b.verizonwireless.com/tbmb/rylEnterEmailAddress.do

OMG, I'm going to miss SoCal, where you get coverage everwhere, from any provider.

i have tmobile do a lot of ppl have that there?

An article from campus IT about cell phone coverage at Davis. IET : TechNews

My d says Tmobile words well at UCD.

that's great to hear!

I've never had a problem with verizon.

^That's good, 'cause I have Verizon lol. =P

****. i didnt even think of this.

i have cingular...

lmao. woops. i didnt notice i typed in *****. ha!

Wait, so are you guys changing your numbers when we move up there? Or keeping your old ones.

haha, it's only 4 astirisks in your first post but there's 5 in your second one. What'd you change?

There is no need to change your number. Just make sure you have a plan that isn't only local to where you live.

Well yeah but every call you make will be a long distance call and anyone that wants to call you will have to dial 1 etc... like that episode of Seinfeld :D

no just area code :P

Not if you have a plan that is not local. Most cell phone plans these days have national plans and you can call anywhere in the country on them without being charged long distance roaming fees. If you have a local plan give your provider a call and see if you can switch to a comparable national plan. Most college kids use national plans so that you can call your friends who will have all kinds of different area codes. Store the numbers so you don't have to plug them in each time. Unlimited text messaging is also a very good idea.

Just wanted to drop in and say DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT T-MOBILE! T-Mobile(in Davis) is by far the worst service I have ever gotten.

If you have T-Mobile, either opt out of the contract somehow or just suffer. I hear Cingular is the best..

No Verizon is the best, but my d's roommate has tmobile and says it works fine. Cingular doesn't work in all the buildings.
