What is the best cell phone service coverage at Penn/Philly?
Basically among Verizon, att cingular, and sprint?

att has the iphone so… =)

Toss-up between AT&T and Verizon.

I had AT&T and couldn’t find a dead spot on campus. It even worked in the bowels of the Huntsman Hall basement.

Plus, iPhone…<3 :)

Gett AT&T or Verizon. I have Verizon and it works perfectly, but I really really wish I had the iphone!

How is Sprint coverage at Penn? D will be there this fall and want her to have the BEST coverage in the northeast area.

Thanks!

how’s tmobile?

Decent from what I’ve heard. They’ll have the Palm Pre which is pretty cool And congratulations to your daughter for getting into Penn!

I use AT&T, and it’s never failed me once during my entire four years here at Penn. I’ve even gotten it working in the subways, where my friends who used other carriers couldn’t get anything. However, in general, AT&T/Sprint/TMobile/etc work great for Penn and the surrounding areas, from what I can tell.

Thanks ilovebagels. Your passion for Penn as consistently displayed here on CC also had an impact on the decision to apply early. She was accepted ED and my hope for her is that she utilizes the resources at Penn the way you did i.e., - by taking classes at Wharton, Annenberg, Nursing etc. Did you get your plum job in Bangalore right after graduation from Penn?

Sprint says they spent $60M in 2008 to improve coverage in the Philly area, so hopefully that has improved their coverage since you have been there. We have Sprint now and we have a great plan but we would consider switching to AT&T if it has better coverage in the northeast area where she will surely be spending the next four years! I want her to have the carrier that has no dead spots not only in Philly but also NY, NJ, DC etc.

Thanks once again!

Actually, I think Verizon has the best coverage We had Verizon for years and my kids had no trouble calling me from the NE, even from the metro in DC. However, we changed to ATT last year because we all wanted Iphones and I have problems with dropped calls occasionally, which hardly happened with Verizon. I think Sprint is not on par with ATT and Verizon.

For what it’s worth, for some time now Verizon has been the company ranked highest by Consumer Reports for cell phone service in the vast majority of US cities, including Philadelphia. I have Verizon cell phone service in Philly, and have never had a coverage issue in Philly or anywhere else I’ve traveled, unlike the previous company I used.
