Best cell phone service in DeNeve??

What service works best in the rooms in DeNeve? Does Cingular work well?

My D said T-Mobile didn't work at all in the room at Rieber Vista during the orientation last week.

My phone didn't get any service either when I was walking down the halls of Rieber Vista or other buildings. But I got service when I was in a room. Kind of odd though.

i think cingular and verizon are tops at UCLA. not sure on specifically de neve rooms, but i get service with cingular in the de neve dining hall while my t-mobile friends dont. note that the phone also has a lot to do with reception. Nokias, newer SonyEricssons, and top end Motorolas are usually good picks for reception on cingular/t-mobile.

I've heard that cell phones generally don't work very well in those new high-rise plazas.

rasenganx: It's not really odd since by going into a room, you're closer to the outside world where signals would have less interference from stuff. :)

vtec: What would be considered as 'top end' motorolas? And I guess samsung doesn't make the list?

"top end" as in RAZR/SLVR. the older/cheaper ones like the V600/V551/V557/V400/V190 etc arent exactly top performers. havent had much experience with samsungs.

Well then, it must be the service provider's fault. Or there's something about UCLA buildings...

T-Mobile Reception at UCLA

De Neve:
3/7 bars at my desk
6/7 bars at the window

Rieber Vista:
0/7 bars at my desk
4/7 bars at the window

University Apartments:
7/7 bars at my desk
7/7 bars at the window

On-Campus:
7/7 bars outdoors
3/7 bars indoors

In Westwood:
7/7 bars outdoors
5/7 bars indoors

With such inconsistent reception, it's no wonder T-Mobile got owned by Cingular.

I lived in De Neve and in the beginning of the year, my cell phone service was Cingular. I had service in certain parts of my room like near the windows but not everywhere. I switched to Verizon in January and had excellent service practically everywhere except when I was on the 6th floor at Rieber Vista. My roommate had T-Mobile and she always complained about having no service in our room.

flopsy,

J.D. Power & Associates seem to think otherwise. In fact, T-Mobile has, for the most part, been ranked higher than Cingular in the majority of U.S. states and abroad.

http://www.wirelessguide.org/plan/service-comparisons.htm

JD Power is garbage. it seems the only companies touting their JD Power awards are stuggling companies. GM with its neverending decline of sales. T-Mobile with arguably the worst coverage, and most behind in technology.

JD Power aren't the only ones ranking T-Mobile above Cingular.

yeah but we don't really care how its ranked overall in the US (btw, how very CC of you). People on this board care about how it is at UCLA, and flopsy's point was that it is inconsistent.

And I think you'll find thats a common assessment. Verizon tends to have the best reception on UCLA's campus.

yeah, i would rank it verizon, cingular, t-mobile. i havent had any experience i with sprint phones since none of my friends have it.

i have verizon. i lived in vista last year. i had great reception except when i was in or by an elevator in every building. but then again, i have a high end verizon phone haha.

I had cingular all year in De neve and the only place i didnt get reception was the elevator...but thats expected....and my roommate had verizon and her reception was also good. So either verizon or cingular are good choices ^_^

I have cingular and I generally had great reception in my De Neve (Acacia) room last year in fact, I also had decent service in the elevators - there's nothing like walking back from campus, getting in the elevator, walking down the hallway, way entering my room all while talking to a friend on the phone and never once being cut off.

I have cingular and my service is generally very acceptable everywhere I've been--dorms, classes, campus, etc. I rarely lose signal except inside buildings where everyone else's phones lose signal as well. I had verizon my freshman year and I actually found cingular to be slightly better, though not enough to make much of a difference. I might switch to T-mobile for the upcoming year though, so we'll see how that goes.

I went to Orientation last week going in with Verizon living in Rieber Vista. This is also the building I will live at for my upcoming freshman year. I also lived on the 6th floor at Orientation, but had crappy service. I think it was because of my crappy phone. I can upgrade the crappy and broken phone now with Verizon, but that means I hafta renew my contract for another 2 years. My friends with Cingular and T-Mobile both seemed to have better service than I did. Perhaps it was my crappy phone? Should I upgrade my Verizon phone and extend the contract another 2 years? TIA.

Edit: after rereading what i wrote, i got all the info through but sounded like an idiot. just adding a little humor? ha ha -_-

Hmm anymore thoughts?

i had verizon in vista and it was wonderful. you're just a loser, haha just kidding.
