When I visited for ADOCH, my Cingular service worked fine across campus and in the dorms too. I personally like Verizon better though, but I'm not sure how service is at Brown.

...has been the leitmotif of most of the conversations we have had with our son for the last four years. Very spotty reception around campus, especially in older buildings, and VERY bad in other RI areas. Pick another carrier.

I had serious problems with Verizon around campus, whereas I normally get really strong service.

I'd reccomend switching to Cingular, I've heard it works the best there. Besides, they're the only ones right now who carry the awesome new motorola phone =)

I've been hearing lately that Cingular kinda sucks...does this not apply to Brown because of the tower? Nobody's commented on T-mobile. Any thoughts?

liquid.. cingular may suck where you live... the coverage varies region-to-region. Seems like it has the best coverage at brown compared to others.

It didn't work twice for me, so that could have just been a fluke.

Why don't all major services work in the middle of a fairly large city? I mean, come on, my area gets pretty regular service, and cows are in danger of outnumbering the people here!

It might be weather or your phone in particular (mine's gone through the washing machine AND a sink full of water) or whatever that's affecting what service you get; I know at certain schools cell phone companies have made deals to only build thier own towers around campus so that only students with that provider will get service, but I don't think that's the case with Brown considering that it is a decently sized city. I've heard bad things about T-Mobile just in general, and good things about Verizon and Cingular/AT&T in general, so that's why I would pick one of those to go with. personally I've had bad luck with verizon in that area.
