I am very interested in BME (biomedical engineering) as an undergrad major. I like physics/comp/bio and I think BME is a nice combination of them all. I am intending of using this as a Pre-med education (obviously in preperation for Med school). Obviously, that means I want a school where obtaining a 4.0 and doing some research/ internships at hospitals is possible. Aid is an important factor for me. I am an international student (Indian male).
Lehigh Univ. (almost half tution intl aid)
Tulane Univ. (half tution intl aid)
Drexel Univ. (no aid :()
Univ. of Maryland (cheap)
WPI ($18K intl aid)
I personally feel that Lehigh is the best choice, for better academics, better engineering faculty, and better reputation. It is also better ranked than the rest (in the 30’s according to USNews I believe). My father will try to negotiate more aid from them also. The only thing I dont really like about it is that I have heard drinking is very heavy at the university, a “work hard, party hard” mentality. I like Tulane, but from what I have heard, there is an extreme lack of diversity - predominantly Northeast White Jewish. That would just be high school all over again :(. However, it has an established Medical school which is a plus. I like Drexel, but it is offering no aid (ugh). Maryland is cheap, but it seems to have more emphasis on the comp engineering program.
