Hey everyone,
I've received acceptances from Warwick, Edinburgh, Durham and St Andrews for Business Management. The fine people over at TSR have already told me Warwick has the best reputation domestically (UK) for Business. However, I'm a bit worried that Warwick is so unknown outside the UK. If the courses at Edinburgh/St Andrews aren't miles behind Warwick, I might rather go there for the international reputation (Might seem shallow, but I'm going to spend most of my career outside the UK so it's important I guess?).

I've been agonizing over this for weeks without being able to decide, any help on this from an American perspective CC?

If Warwick does have the best reputation domestically, then it’s news to me. I’d put them on a par. TSR is great, but on the subject of uni prestige, you do tend to find a load of sixth formers trying to pick over minor perceived variations in prestige which won’t actually matter in the jobs market.

Have a look at the modules on offer, consider where you might like to live (NB Warwick University isn’t actually in Warwick, it’s on the outskirts of Coventry), and where you think you would be happiest.

Finally, do be aware that assuming you got all your offers by 31st March, then you MUST choose a firm and insurance by 7th May UK time. If you don’t, all your offers will disappear. http://www.ucas.com/how-it-all-works/undergraduate/tracking-your-application/replying-your-offers

Thanks for the heads up, but I didn’t receive all my responses until after the 31st so I have until June 7.

I know TSR can be a bit unreliable on the subject of Uni prestige, and they tend to overrate Warwick, but through my own research I’ve come to the conclusion that Warwicks business school really is quite good on global rankings. The problem is that the Uni itself is unknown, and much of its high rankings for business may be because of its great MBA rather than a great undergraduate program… Again, I don’t really have a way to answer these questions because I don’t really know anyone who recruits from UK universities.

I wouldn’t stress too much. Those are all solidly second tier universities. The student room likes Warwick partly because Warwick is so good for mathematics, and internet people love mathematics. Durham has a little bit of stigma for allegedly being full of Oxbridge rejects, so I’d avoid that.

If you are considering moving outside the UK, I’d pick one of the Scottish colleges.

But I don’t know anything about business.

I work with many business schools as a content provider, but don’t know much about the ones in the UK. They are definitely not top tier in an international sense.

What a good business school does more than anything else is give you a shot at recruiter interviews when you are nearing your degree award. That’s really what you pay for - beyond certain technical subjects like finance or accounting, the rest is pretty much blah blah.

Thanks guys! Firmed Edinburgh and put Warwick as Insurance.
