Hey guys,

It's decision time for me, and I was wondering if I could get opinions from the community.

My choices are:

Notre Dame
Wash U. - St. Louis
NYU - Stern
Michigan (Waiting on Pre-Admit for Ross)
Boston College
Binghamton - PwC Scholars Program
Lehigh - IBE Program

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Stern, Michigan
Boston College, Notre Dame
The rest

I’ll go ahead an narrow it down further. I think choosing Stern over Michigan for the sake of recruiting at a potential career you might decide to do is ludicrous.

Choose Michigan. Have a great time in school and work hard, and benefit from recruiting that is nearly on par with Stern. As in, the difference is miniscule.

If you don’t get pre-admit, go to Michigan anyway, major in econ, get a 3.7-3.8, join a few clubs, then get into Ross. The way I see it, if you get into Notre Dame and Wash U. and Stern, you’re smart enough to get into Ross from Michigan. So good luck, and enjoy college.

Stern over Ross for the networking advantage. plus its extremely easy to rack up ib internships in Stern

Except he’ll be spending the next few years of his life in NYC, no reason to stay there longer than necessary…

Plus I think you’re overestimating the networking and recruiting advantages of being at Stern.

you are underestimating the networking and recruiting advantages of being in stern/nyc

LOL Why are you assuming OP wouldn’t want to stay in NYC? And it’s certainly a better place than Ann Arbor, so even more puzzling

Interning & networking in the city year-round is a huge advantage

Honestly man, if I were in your position I would go with Michigan. Better social environment, one of the best fraternity scenes in the nation, hotter women, Michigan football and basketball, global brand, etc. Michigan places incredibly well and it’s an incredibly fun school too.

With NYU and Stern, you’d have to be at the top of your class and network like a fiend in order to distinguish yourself among your peers. Like almost every kid in Stern’s gunning for IB, after all. I mean, you’re talking about, 1000 kids in your Stern class alone who whack off to Lloyd Blankfein every night before they go to sleep. I hear a lot of complaints from Stern kids who say that they have difficulty making successful contact at the school’s networking events.

If you know you’re at the top of your game, however, and are confident of breaking into IB, then Stern all the way. I would pick Mich, personally… but hey, maybe you’re not me, though. Maybe you like the city life and Stern’s professional atmosphere… all comes down to fit. Most of the schools on your list place pretty equally.

akptech, show me these networking/recruiting advantages. In numbers.

you cant quantify networking or recruiting advantages. just take a look on linkedin of most kids receiving ib offers. almost all of them have worked multiple internships and at stern working internships during the school year is easy

find the thread circulating around wso about school representation, stern has more representation in numbers. im not arguing you’ll have a better time at stern, actually i believe you have to be a special type of person to have fun there, but you obviously have to work hard wherever you go

btw stern only has about 600 ugrads per class and about 1/3 actually guns for IB

Fair enough. I would still argue that the difference in recruiting and networking isn’t great enough to overpower shear fit. If you like Michigan’s college town, sports, very great academics, many opportunities, and a “fun” (all subjective of course), university, then go to Michigan!

But if you prefer NYU’s campus being integrated into the city itself and love New York, then obviously NYU would be a great choice.

This is four years of your life, don’t make the decision off of small differences between recruiting/networking. Quality networking over quantity, and both schools offer a great alumni basis. So if you do find yourself preferring Michigan’s environment, don’t think for a second it would be throwing the option of investment banking out.

Just pick the school you like, work had, ENJOY your time, then chimp-mode AWAY!!!

there is a recent thread on WSO that said where kids from Ross and Stern placed at for the summer. Looked similar to me.
