Best classes for Freshman to take during Summer B?

I think I saw this somewhere else on the forum, but I'll ask again.

I don't really care if it's related to my major or not, but what are some fun/laid-back classes that are good for Freshmen to take during the summer. I don't want it to be too rigorous since it's only a month and a half, but are there general educations classes with preferably cool professors that I can get out of the way in the summer? And my major is journalism, if someone does happen to have a suggestion on JOU courses in the summer.

I'm just looking to take two classes...

Anyone?

when I came into Summer B a year ago I took:

**I’m also in the college of journalism and telecommunications

PLP2000 - Plants, Plagues, & People - a really really easy class that satisfies 3 credits of biological sciences. I only went to class 2 times and got an A. Just buy smokin notes and you’ll ace the class.

INR2001 - International Relations -very interesting, not too difficult, and required for you major. Satisfies the International credit you need.

I’m glad I came in Summer B, I’ve never had a semester as fun as that one and I’m looking forward to when it comes up again. Summer B consists of, for me at least, waking up at 9am, going to classes, taking a power nap until 10pm, party until 5am, sleep, and repeat at least 4 days a week.

Also during Summer B most if not all the good parties will be fraternity sponsored and I remember when I was living in Hume the entire building would empty out and a hundred or so of us new students would go to one specific fraternity that night together. Most of these parties are usually on facebook ahead of time and just ask fellow freshies where the best party will be that night cuz they will know.

And finally, if you’re interested in the frat scene all fraternities will recruit during summer b and it’s quite easy to get a bid from multiple fraternities in the summer. All you have to do is introduce yourself and talk to as many of the brothers as you can and exchange phone numbers. Usually I did this over a few nights of partying at the same place and it’s also rewarding because you will meet some cool guys who will bend over backwards for you if you appear genuine. If you plan to rush in the fall, which I recommend every freshman to do and not wait until spring, this is very important. Personally since UF’s party scene is centered around frat parties and not apartment parties, if this is important to you I suggest you join.

Thanks, that was pretty helpful! Yeah, do you have to choose classes for Fall too at Preview when selecting summer classes? Because my preview date is next week and I won’t know my AP scores until late July after I’ve selected. But yeah, I’ll just try and get the general education stuff out of the way.

Just curious: how is journalism? I decided on that to be my major and I guess I’ll see how it is in college, but what with the unstable economy and all…it might be subject to change.

And for the dorms, Hume is not open this summer! I was so bummed. So I requested Springs, then Rawlings, then Beaty. Definitely want to go to some parties though. I can just RSVP via Facebook and find someone to go with?

Also, I’m not a guy…so I won’t be rushing for a fraternity. I considered rushing for a sorority, but I don’t really think that’s my scene…I’d still like to go to some Greek functions or a toga party, though. Haha.

Yes you will also pick classes for the fall but you don’t need to declare a major for at least a year or two so there’s no rush just get your gen eds out of the way that’s the best advice I can give and advice that I think you should follow until you ultimately figure it out. I changed majors in my head tens of times and officially twice and it gave me such a headache.

Personally I don’t think journalism is a great major right now even though UF has one of the best communications schools in the country. I say you should change your major but stay within the same college because it is a great college. For example, I’m majoring in Telecommunication which is more marketable and you can take journalism electives as well.

Try and live in a dorm closest to frat row as possible so you can walk with friends there and stumble back. If jennings is open that dorm usually has like 75% girls compared to guys.

Sorry for assuming you were a guy. I agree please don’t join a sorority, I have little to no respect for most of these girls. I have come across some fairly smart ones though but they are few and far between. Plus girls can go to any frat party even after summer, guys can’t and that was the main reason why I wrote what I did in my previous post.

GL and have fun
