Hey, I've recently began looking over some college applications, and am struck by how little I know about that actual process of filling out the application. Can anyone recommend a (worthwhile) book that will offer advice/tips on filling out the Common Application? I have Michelle Hernandez's "Acing the College Application" but, as it is from 2002, fear it might be out of date. Then again, are any books worth reading over, or is it best to just tackle the application without any prior knowledge?

Your a best off just reading a bunch of CC threads, but if you must have a book, “Gatekeepers” will scare the hell out of you and “Crazy U.” will make you laugh your A$$ off. Both will give you some interesting insight, but neither is gospel.

Again, nothing is gospel, but I feel that this series of articles captures the spirit of applying to college really well and takes you through virtually all the details. You should check it out.

I hate to say it, but I don’t think there are any good books out there on itm but there are A LOT of good internet resources. CC being on of them.

Ditto mikemac with Admission Matters by Sally Springer.

While I’m the first to agree that CC is a great internet resource ;), I don’t think it replaces a realistic, well written, comprehensive overview of the college admissions process that a book can provide. The information is all here, but not in an easily accessible, ordered fashion.

I have read a bunch of CC threads (I’ve been on and off using this account since 2006), but, like entomom so aptly said, would like a “comprehensive overview” of the entire process. Thanks for the responses- I’ll definitely check out Admission Matters.
