Best College Ave Freshman Dorms

I will most likely be attending Rutgers in the fall. What are the best freshman dorms on College Ave? I heard Clothier is good, any others good? Or bad? I saw Tinsley and did not care for it too much.

clothier is typically the party dorm. you'll have an awesome time but it might be hard to get work done. tinsley is less wild but still a good time. as for the rest I'm not too sure, campbell probably falls in between those 2.

I read some about Demarest Hall, the special interest dorm. That one seems kind of cool to me since I'm really into the humanities.

Live in Clothier. Just renovated. I am living in it now. It is true people are up 24/7 but it isn't loud at all. Plus if you need to focus on your work, the study room on the bottom floor is perfectly quiet. Every dorm is a party dorm. River Dorms are crappy and falling apart.

Just a warning about Demarest. It is seen as the "weird kids" dorm. Very diverse. I know it is a joke whenever someone sees someone strange kids say, "He or she must live in Demarest". I have met plenty of nice kids from Demarest.

I would say either clothier or tinsley. Personal choice: clothier.

How about Brett? One of the members on this site indicated Brett, which I understand is only for honors students, is active and fun. Does anyone else have input on Brett? Also, is it true that arts&sciences majors can take almost all of their courses on College Ave? Here's another unrelated to the topic question: is it tough to get RU football tickets as a freshman? Is there a web site that explains how game tickets are distributed to students? Thanks

Brett is fine also. Never been inside but have seen the rooms by walking past them. If you are a liberal arts major(History, Poli Sci, English etc.), most likely the majority of your classes will be on College Ave. But usually most campuses offer the same basic 100 and some 200 level courses. I know a lot of science classes are on Douglass/Busch. Buses are no problem. They can be a hassle during certain hours when one is trying to get to Douglass(12-2pm and around 6pm). I have a morning Douglass class and get there in 10 minutes from College Ave. You can't avoid the buses.

As for football, tickets are free for students. As of last season, the tickets were first come, first serve. You show up to the gate, swipe your RUID card and they hand you a ticket. Unless you want bottom row seats, you don't have to show up that early. Most games don't sell out. I remember we played Howard and there was lower seats were stilled unfilled when the game started.

Hey U Guys I'm A New Member. Im Attending Rutgers This Fall Andi Was Curious Is There Any Current Or Incoming Rutgers Students Out There That Can Update Me On Wat To Expect From The College. Also I'm Really Into Theatre So If U Have Seen Any Theatre Groups On Campus Can U Give Me A Heads Up On If There Any Good Or Not? Thx!!

As far as theatre, a few of my friends are in the Livingston Theatre company and love it. www.rultc.org

RU! I will never forget the RU Game I went to for free. RU gave our high school tickets for the whole football team. Love that cannon blowing away when a TD is scored... "R!......U!..." damn that scarlet knight feeling is still in me. NJ PRIDE!

I toured Demarest today at the open house and it was pretty damn sweet (especially the basement). I really hope I can land a spot there; It's on College Ave, right next to the gym and the library, and the people were really cool.

70% of Freshman are assigned to Livingston Campus housing, so keep dreaming about living on College Avenue dorms.

I'm a freshman at livingston... it's not that bad. Big rooms

Well, I filled out my housing application two months ago and given the nature of Demarest, i suspect there will be limited demand and so, to quote Edmund Dantes, "until the day when God shall deign to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom is summed up in these two words, 'Wait and hope'."

I took a tour of Demarest yesterday and it was awesome so I'll post it here for anyone who's interested in Demarest (opmsma mentioned that she was in another thread).

On the outside, the building was one of the more impressive looking dorms and on the steps there was a group of students from the "music section" of the dorm playing.

Inside, the majority of the rooms were small (to me anyway. I'm not sure what they were relative to the ones in other dorms). I don't know if you know about the special interest sections that differentiate Demarest from other dorms; there's music, cinema, creative writing, philosophy, gender studies, religion, art, history and political science, and a few others that meet every week and function as discussion groups/clubs for interested students. If you take a leadership role in the dorm or in some of these sections, you can be rewarded with a bigger "corner room." There are two bathrooms on each of the three floors, male and female. I thought it was kind of equality obsessive that every semester the genders swap bathrooms so the people who had to walk further to their own could be closer for the other half of the semester.

The main feature of Demarest though was the Basement (there weren't common areas on every floor like at some of the other halls) . It was pretty impressive. The main area had a pretty big fire place, a pool table, a ping pong table, and a piano (which comes in handy for their coffee houses I suppose). There was a smaller room off to the side that was really graffittied up that the art section meets in. The other room had some chairs and a plasma screen that the whole dorm can use (and that the cinema group uses during their meetings). The laundry room did strike me as being kind of small for a dorm that big.

Those were the highlights of Demarest.

I know Clothier has everything you listed except the graffittied up wall and the fireplace. Clothier actually has 2 pianos!
