Do you have 20K to spend on Ivy Coach?
My parents are willing to pay as long as it works.
I can’t imagine that they would guarantee results.
I would NOT spend that kind of money, personally: no consultant can guarantee admittance to the Ivies, as far as I’m concerned. If they can and you do get in, it likely means you were good enough to get in in the first place (ie: you had the base qualifications to be seriously considered), and probably could have done it for a fraction of the price (or by yourself, for free)–the price of getting someone qualified to review your essays and supplements. An Ivy coach can’t reinvent or significantly spin who you are unless they encourage you to lie in your supplements, which would be, ya know, dishonest and crazy. And any quality work they could likely do helping you with your essays, someone just as qualified could do for less money.
Your parents are willing to pay for some private consulting. Great! Find someone for a fraction of the price and work with them on your essays, supplements, maybe some strategy. It can make the crucial difference in many cases. Let go of the idea that you “must” get into an Ivy, and then if you do you’ll be delightfully surprised! I’m sure some CC members can recommend reputable but not 20K-expensive places.
OP is a ninth grader with family backing and funds for expensive “ivy” coaching. How about trying to be authentic and find what you really want to study?
Why do you think those two conditions are mutually exclusive?
@marvin100 Good question: perhaps I’m assuming too much. The OP seems rather mercenary about presenting the Ivy package and his/her sole B as a ninth grader. I suppose he/she is no different than other 8th and 9th graders who are already afflicted with Ivy Fever. I suppose the fact that this one also will arm himself/herself with coaching just sit well with me – I can’t say why…
I used AdmissionsHero, mainly because of the price compared to other schools and I had a great experience. It was very professional and their essay specialists were top notch. However I have just applied for the class of 2020 so I can’t tell you how well it worked. But I can tell you I really liked my essay at the end of our editing process.
@proudterrier @princeton2010986 @marvin100 Thanks for your advice guys.
@princeton2010986, how do you feel about AdmissionHero, not that college decisions have been made? Are you still satisfied with them?
