Best College Dorms- UF

What are the best dorms to apply for at UF. Is the the rumor true that apartments are cheaper than dorms? Do you believe that a dorm experience is invalueable? And isn't it indeed true that undergraduate contacts will not last because of the difference in interests? The myths or "truths" I have heard... any thoughts?

It depends on what you want. If you want a really social freshman dorm, Broward or Rawlings are your best bet, although they're slightly run-down. In Beaty Towers, you get your own kitchen and living room, but are somewhat isolated. Mallory, Yulee, and Reid are somewhat social and recently renovated - they're a pretty good pick.

Apartments are not necessarily cheaper than dorms. Keep in mind that with an apartment, you're paying a year-long lease. Even if you go home for the summer, you're going to be forking over $550 a month for your empty room.

I really like the dorm experience. It isn't terrible. The public bathrooms are not a big deal, the dining hall food really isn't too bad, and you won't find anywhere more convenient to live. I've met some of my best friends here in my hall. While I'm sure you could do fine without the dorm experience, it is a good one to have.

I am currently signing up for either Broward, Rawlings, or jenninngs. I hear its a freshman social dorm and thats cool but im worried about if will interfere with studying since I’m going into engineering. is this a problem or will i probly be fine?

You should check out the University of Florida section of the forum. You’ll get more in-depth knowledge of dorms and apartments.

Dorms the first year is a great idea. I was in Hume Honors for 2 months and then cancelled my contract since the housing was in demand. However, social dorms have nothing to do with studying. Who studies in their dorm? There are 24 labs, Libraries, and classrooms that you can invade. Trust me 4th year EE.

Is Hume strictly for Honors kids? why did they accept my request after they know that i am not honors if that’s the case?
