Best College Essay books

Currently i ordered the book On Writing the College Application Essay: The Key to Acceptance and the College of your Choice which was acclaimed on this site but i was wondering what other books were good for tips on writing the essay as well as sample essays. Any suggestions? Any sites that were helpful?

100 successful college essays is good.

college Essays for Dummies!!

The Idiot's Guide to College Admissions Essays.

50 Essays that got into Harvard

"Acing the College Application" and "Rock Hard Apps". The advice in there significantly enhanced my essays, and as a result probably influenced my acceptance to Princeton.

My D bought Princeton Reviews "College Essays that made Difference." It's not a 'how-to' book but rather a collection of real essays and they tell you the stats of the the kids that wrote them and what the colleges they were accepted to.

50 succcessful harvard application essays is bad. DO NOT GET IT!

alright...hmm now im having trouble choosing which one to buy...i want to buy 1 or 2 books since i need to spend 25 dollars for free shipping at amazon and i am getting the book suggested by cc.

I have to second the nomination of College Essay Writing for Dummies. Even though the title sounds frivolous, it's one of the best books I've ever come across for helping kids get started in the process. It shows you great ways to brainstorm for topics, what to do when you get writer's block, how to approach certain topics like "why this college" or "who was your biggest influence", etc. And it has lots of chapters on the short answer questions. I really felt that it gave excellent advice. It only has a few sample essays and they're not all great - some are just ok. But you can learn from what's right and wrong about them.

I was able to check it out of the library so it didn't cost anything, and my S has gotten a lot of help from it.
