Best college for woman Mechanical Engineer

Geography primarily because of mama bear. Also daughter wants opportunity to see dogs frequently. A five hour drive is probably the maximum mama bear would want (actually she is not sold on a 3 hour drive either (Wisconsin or Minnesota)).

I am pretty sure no one who has gone to Smith has been coddled. They are pretty k**-a* there. Same with Wellesley (although obviously they do not have engineering – but I think you would have found the difficulty of the Chem department there sufficient to satisfy you).

Iowa State has a very good engineering program. It is doubtful that she could find an out-of-state option at a similar cost, since her 27 ACT is low for merit awards.

My inclination would be to continue at Iowa State, since she has so many credits which would probably be harder to transfer elsewhere, and graduate a year early. And then think about a master’s degree program somewhere else. This path would probably cost about the same amount of time and money as starting at a different college and ending up with a BS instead of an MS.

Wis75 - rest assured my D at a women’s college is not “coddled.”
