Hello, I'm a senior (late to be doing this, I know) and I've recently decided that I desperately want to be a part of a college newspaper. Right now I'm the EIC of my high school paper, which just won Best of Show at the NSPA Convention.
I'm not sure whether I want a daily or weekly, but I do know that I want a well-designed paper (or one open to being redesigned) with strong writing/coverage/photography.
I'm looking at Ivies, UCs, and top LACs right now.
So here's the big question: what are some top schools with equally wonderful newspapers?
(and please don't bother with those awful Princeton Review lists)

What’s the matter with Princeton Review lists? They survey a number of students at every college and give you their survey results - maybe not too rigorous a methodology, but instead you’re asking individuals to give you opinions based on a N = 1, so PR lists should be more valuable than that. I’d start with the PR list, then go online and look at each of their top 20. You might also email faculty at well-known journalism schools such as Northwestern, Syracuse and Missouri to ask their opinions.

My issue with the PR lists is that they ask about popularity of the paper rather than actual quality, although I suppose there must be a slight correlation there.

There was just a post on this a few days ago

To reiterate: Schools with the best journalism programs don’t necessarily have the best papers. Northwestern is usually considered to have to top pre-professional journalism program, while papers like the Yale Daily News, Harvard Crimson, the Chronicle (Duke), the Daily Tar Heel, the Daily Pennsylvanian, and even WVU & Mizzou’s papers are considered the top ones.

But what about some with more interesting design? Ball State’s paper looks sleek and modern, for example, but the school isn’t really up my alley.

Brandeis University has two weekly student newspapers and a small but successful journalism program (journalism minor):
[The Justice](http://www.thejustice.org/)
[The Brandeis Hoot](http://thebrandeishoot.com/)
With both, you can see the print copy using Issuu.
