Can someone give me a list of schools with the best general biology majors (so not just human bio) preferably top 25 overall academics in the nation (so not UC Davis) and preferably with a high ranked D1 women’s tennis team. Thanks!
Why don’t you look at the tennis rankings and then look up each bio program? Bio is generally good across schools since it’s everywhere.
You can also cross-reference with some of these schools:

Harvard, UC Berkeley, Standford, UC San Frans, UCLA, Yale, Michigan, Cornell, Penn, Wisconsin, Duke
The truth is a “best general Bio major” list doesn’t exist. Sure, you may find some online. Maybe some people will post their thoughts.
But online lists and forum participants don’t know you.
Imagine Sally is on the quiet side and would not take the initiative to find research positions or get to know profs during office hours (for guidance in college and recs when graduating). Would she be well served at a large public? How about a LAC which may not have the deep funding of a large public but with small classes in which it’s almost guaranteed the profs get to know her, and where she has an assigned faculty advisor?
How about Sue that has never met a stranger and has already talked her way into a research position as a HS student. Might she take great advantage of the labs at a large school (public or private) that has more research areas and more equipment than a LAC?
Or take Shelly. She’s taken every class in HS and is already taking math/science at a local CC. Shelly wants a PhD. Would a LAC that doesn’t offer a PhD program be her best bet? Or a large school where she can start taking grad courses while an undergrad?
And there’s Sandy. Bright and motivated, good at Bio but enjoys politics and wants to continue to be involved in college. She is far to the left. Think she’ll be happy at a school with a conservative-leaning student body, no matter how good the Bio dept is?
Do you think there’s a lot of overlap of the best schools for the kids in the examples above, to give but a few examples? No, one list does not fit all.
Here’s the deal. Any college in the US is more than capable of teaching Bio at the undergrad level. The differentiating factors are what make some a better fit for you than others. Not which are on some “one size fits all” list.
@dlee627 UC San Francisco is not an undergraduate school. It is a graduate medical school only (basically, it is UC Berkeley’s medical school).
Oh… I just searched up the rankings. Ok then… @ThankYouforHelp
^ That makes me wonder what rankings you were searching.
Are you a tennis recruit?
No but I’m looking to be. I’m only a sophomore
I think UC Davis is a very good biology program. I’m unsure what it’s the best program for undergrad. You could look at US News. If your goal is a top bio grad school, lots of schools can get you there.
Bio is a staple at all universities. Just figure out where you can be recruited.
What do you want to do with a bio degree?
i want to later go on into vet school so more like animal bio. i know this would make a lot more sense for me to go to uc davis which i really want to go to for grad school. i just want a high ranked, more rigorous and notable undergrad that will look good on may resume
@tcat4803 If you can get into Berkeley or UCLA, then that would satisfy your criteria (only in that it’s more prestigious and is possibly more rigorous). Otherwise, there is absolutely nothing wrong with UC Davis. It’s rigorous, ranked well, and looks good on your resume, whether you’re applying to vet school, med school, or a PhD program.
@tcat4803: UC Davis is #2 behind Cornell for US News ranking in Animal Science and Biology. Other than Cornell at #1, you cannot any higher than these 2 schools.

Are you instate for UC Davis?
