thanks.

Harvard and U of Chicago

How much math is involved in econ? Calc? Stats?

It depends on the school, but you're probably going to have to take a bit of calc and a reasonable amount of stats (at the minimum).

The top LACs, Amherst, Swarthmore, Williams

Try Princeton.

Northwestern Universitry!!!!

I believe berkely is pretty solid for poli sci, but I have no clue for economics

Columbia is well known in the humanities including Poli Sci. I have heard that the Econ department is also very good (I am a Columbia '09 and looking into a possible Econ major).

London School of Economics and Political Science

Claremont McKenna

just curious (not meant to be seen as an attack) what is so great about Northwestern's poli sci department?

I know that Northwestern's econ department is in the top ten, if not five, in the US. And in this case, (usually) if one department is good, so is the other.

"just curious (not meant to be seen as an attack) what is so great about Northwestern's poli sci department?"

-Great professors, interested students, research opportunities .

it's a good, but not great program at NU (poli sci that is)

You could study International Political Economy at Georgetown...

Actually, Georgetown has excellent programs in both economics and political science. Definitely a good place for the two fields. :)

how is emory in this area?

My search turned up George Washington University of DC and Trinity College of CT, and both are my top 2 choices (I am applying ED to Trinity). GWU is well known for its Political Science department, and with a bit of research I found that Trinity is just about as good, and also has cheaper tuition

"it's a good, but not great program at NU"
-Just how do you know this? Have you spent time in the program? If no, then you have no idea about what you speak..

you're biased my friend. I mean it's not up with the leaders in the field. I didn't say I wouldn't go there for poli sci. I didn't say it was a bad program. It's a very good program. But for someone looking to go to the top poli sci programs in the nation, I wouldn't put NU at the top of my list, though it would be included
