Best Colleges in Long Island, New York

I am trying to help a family member who wants to study in Long Island next year and he wants to know what are some of the most reputable colleges on long island.

SUNY- Stonybrook

I am going to second what sybbie says-- Stony Brook. But other very decent schools on Long Island include- Adelphi-Hofstra- CW Post.

SUNY- Stonybrook, Webb Institute, Hofstra, St. Johns, Merchant Marine Academy (I would say those are the best)

Last time I looked, the Merchant Marine Academy isn't on Long Island.

Taxguy- I think he's right- The Merchant Marine academy is in Kings Point L I. and Webb Instutue (around Glen Cove) have very specialized programs. Not your typical college experience.

I'd pick Hofstra.

Long Island really blows as a college setting. Anyways, Stony Brook is the best. Adelphi, Hofstra and SUNY Old Westbury are worth a look, don't bother with anything else. Webb and the Merchant Marine Academy are great if you like what they offer.

Hofstra is really goo, and has many majors...

Stony Brook is the best, followed by Hofstra and then Long Island University.

Technically CUNY's Queens and Brooklyn Colleges are both on Long Island, though they are part of NYC of course.
