best community college in bay area?

my friend wants to transfer to berkeley and she's looking for a community college in the bay area. anybody know which cc has the best transfer rate?
we did some research and the best one was...i think it was one in san jose area, but it's too far.
any suggestions?

City College of San Francisco =) I don't know if it's the best, but it is your best bet if you're a Chem major.

De Anza.. it's supposed to be really good. some people even call it "UC Cupertino" haha

This question has come up before. Just search for De Anza or Foothill. All ccs have a good relationship with the UC system, but there really isn't any guarantee that you'll get into UC Berkeley based on what cc you attend. They do pretty much guarantee transfer to a UC or CSU somewhere in the state, but not to any particular UC campus.

Where do you live now (county)?

If you are particularly interested in transfering to Cal, you may wish to contact:

my friend is thinking about moving up to berkeley this summer so we might room together

From what I've heard DeAnza is the best. I wanted to go there but it's too far for a daily commute.

I'm at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill and hope to transfer to Cal next year. I dont know where it stands in any ratings, but close to 200 students transfered into Cal last year from DVC (Link)

I'll definitely be contacting him/taking a trip out to the center, thanks for the info!

The following charts indicates which CCs send transfer students to UC Berkeley, but doesn't list the transfer rate or indicate the quality of the CC education...

I actually heard that Foothill was the #1 community college in the country.

That definitely is a stretch, but it surely is one of the better ccs around.

I thought DeAnza was the top school, but DVC has the most transfers ;]

DVC in Pleasant Hill is a really good community college

DeAnza, hands down. I think it has the highest rate of transfers to UC campuses. Isn't it like the 3rd best in the nation?

Santa Rosa Junior College!

I'm serious, its like the best JC in the state. People from SoCal come up here to study cuz its easier for SRJC students to transfer to the more prestigious UC's. They've got some kind of deal going on... i don't know much about it.

I took classes at de anza my senior year of high school and it's main problems are parking and over crowding, same as berkeley basically. foothill has better enrollment policies and fewer crowding problems.

I went to both De Anza and Foothill, but to tell the truth I can't tell which one's "better." But I have heard that De Anza's one of the best in the nation.

DeAnza is called UC DeAnza as a joke...because all of the dumbest students from high school go there. And some of the smartest students end up taking a few classes there for credit.

De Anza is the best community college in the U.S. I believe, it may not be up to par with UC's but it is one of the top if not number 1 in California for sure. I went to De Anza for a semester when as a Berkeley spring admit for credits and it was very easy. A lot of people go there and then transfer to a U.C. Foothill and De Anza are "linked" together, cooperative, they share the same registration system. Both are good.

In response to some other posts, the parking there is not really bad at all, there is a humongous parking lot as well as a massive new parking structure next to the lot. Sure the nearest parking spaces are going to be crowded, but if you're not too lazy to walk a short distance you definitely will find an open parking space.

De Anza is not exactly made up of the dumbest students, it is really a diverse atmosphere, lots of adults go there for supplemental education while working. There are smart kids who take De Anza for credit, as well as highschool graduates who hope to transfer, but not really that many as i expected. UC De Anza would be a joke, but De Anza should be made into a real college, considering there are many questionable institutions out there that call themselves colleges; de anza is up to par with them even as a cc.

You have to do the work to get good grades in De Anza, don't expect to get A's if you don't read or study at all. It is easier than highschool IMO, less busy work.

Oh, please, the dumbest students from high school don't go there, they are students who got into decent colleges but want to transfer to UCB and UCLA. Lynbrook and MV feed students to De Anza every year. These students are not dumb, they just want more.
As for the parking, De Anza has bad parking spaces. They are too small and you get hit all the time. The parking lot is known for hit-and-runs.

The dumbest students DO go there, in addition to the good students who want credits or are trying to transfer. I went to a low-grade high school and had plenty of dumb friends who all had a ticket to DeAnza. I think Foothill is more popular for summer classes.

it seems that the CCs that have the highest admissions to UCB are De Anza, CCSF, and Diablo Valley College. So I guess those are the best CCs in the bay area if you wanna transfer to UCB
