So my priority number is 3,039 and I got into honors. My first two choices are landis and gilchrist, followed by degraff and wildwood. I just got an email from FSU saying that females with a number over 3,000 have a very low chance of getting into suite-style dorms, so I want to apply to Kellum or Smith or something else for my fourth choice just in case...

Any recommendations on a dorm that is not too terrible and is centrally located?

That’s… interesting. There’s over 3700 spots in FSU Housing in suite-style dorms, and typically the number they toss out for being on the borderline for suite-style is 4000, not 3000. Plus females have the option of Jennie Murphree that males don’t have, so that seems backwards to me.

For the community style dorms, Smith and Kellum are on the west side and Deviney and Dorman are more centrally located. Dorman and Deviney also have moveable furniture, whereas the beds in Smith and Kellum are built into the walls, so you don’t have as much room to move around the rest of the furniture. They each have their pros and cons, really.

If you are more inclined towards a suite-style building, you could add Salley as your fourth choice. If all 4 choices are full when they get to you (I’d be willing to bet prettty much anything that Wildwood or DeGraff, or both would be) then you will be placed somewhere else anyway. I would probably drop Wildwood and add Salley. I personally don’t think that your priority number will put you in a community style dorm.

Salley is a bit dark and it isn’t nearly as nicely renovated as the East Side halls. The bedrooms are also extremely small and you will likely have to keep the beds bunked (or sacrifice pretty much any walking room).

But, it’s redeeming qualities are that it’s cheaper than the other suite style halls, has a far larger bathroom than other suite styles, doesn’t require a meal plan, and has a common area where you can study and work on homework while your roommate is sleeping in the bedroom. The bedroom is very small, but you won’t be in there much except to sleep and get dressed.

Salley has mixed reviews. Some call it the best hall on campus. Others think it’s one of the worst.
