My dad went to u of a but that was when computers were the size of living rooms. Haha.

You should check out their engineering department’s website. It will have a recommendation and or a list of minimum specs. I am looking at the Lenovo Thinkpad W520. It is not super cool looking or lightweight, but it had a great keyboard and is extremely powerful. The more engineering work I do (ie CAD or MATLAB), the more I want a ridiculously powerful computer. Also for mechanical engineering, my field of interest, most programs are best on Windows. Mac with a virtual machine isn’t powerful or functional enough (Only a certain amount of memory is allocated to the VM and connections can be bad). Boot Camp is annoying and at least on my late 2008 Mac requires the use of a mouse…pretty annoying. It also has connection issues.

Thanks for your input
