Best course advice

I’m really not the best at school. Yes, I am able to keep A’s but I struggle a lot which causes me to spend extra time on everything.

This is my schedule for Junior Year

AICE English Literature AS
AP Environmental Science
Student Aide
AICE US History A (it’s really easy)
AICE Global Perspectives AS (heavy research based class)
Honors Physics (may switch to something else)
AICE Mathematics 1 AS (really hard; covers pre calc and half of calc AB)

Over the summer I’m taking Algebra 2 Honors and Foundations of Programming Honors.

Should I stay in Physics and AICE Math? I want to take physics so I can have the chance to take AP physics my senior year however, I can still take honors my senior year and switch physics with a fun and stress free class. I really love math so I can spend lots of time doing it so should I stay in AICE Math or drop down to PreCalc honors?

Don’t know what i want to major in yet, maybe something in CS, environmental, engineering, economics, business.

Are you a sophomore now? What kinds of colleges are you aiming for? Have you taken any foreign language classes?

I would stay in physics and math and get rid of other classes if your schedule is too hard…
You could ditch AP Env Science…what about Foreign lang?

Why AICE US History A and
AICE Global Perspectives AS?

Yes, I am a sophomores now. I’m aiming for FSU, UF type colleges; basically any non-ivys that are a little competitive. I have taken two years of foreign language (spanish) but this year my teacher was absent for 75% of the year, so we didn’t do much, to the point where we were advised not to move up levels. Also I’m fluent in Italian as it is my first language.

I don’t think I will do well on an upper level foreign lang as I learned nothing this year in Spanish 2. I’m required to take AICE Global perspectives because it’s a requirement for my AICE Diploma. AICE US History A at my school is extremely easy, easier than APUSH, and just a little bit harder than US History Honors, that’s why I’m taking it.

What should I switch AP Env with? I can take Spanish 3 Hon however I know it will be extremely hard as I have only basic spanish knowledge. I can also take an art elective (or something else) but I’m not to keen on art.

Can you register and take the subject test in Italian (whenever it’s offered - check the subject test schedule since it may be only once or twice a year)? With a high score + 2 years in Spanish, you’d be covered.

If you love Math, then AICE Math is the way to go. What’s the next step in the sequence, does your school offer AICE Further Math or Math A2? If you take Precalculus Honors, what will you take senior year?

Do take Honors Physics since Physics is a core element for Engineering.
If you want to switch out of a class, it’d be APES, but unless you have another class you like better I’m not sure why.

@MYOS1634 I will try to register for the the subject test in Italian. My school does not offer AICE Further Math or any other AICE math class past AICE Math 1. The sequence would be AP Calc BC if there is sufficient enrollment. If I take Honors Precalc, many at my school usually go to AP Calc AB.
I don’t have another class to take, so I may stay in APES and maybe switch if I feel as my schedule is too rigorous.

Registering for some sort of external proof you have a high level of Italian (written language especially) matters because otherwise you’re short in foreign language. Unless you have an Italian school certificate of some sort (that works, too).
Ok, so you’d take BC next year, that works 100%. Or switch to precalc Honors → AB, also a good choice, which doesn’t keep you from any college nor track.

@MYOS1634 I went to school in Italy up to the 7th grade (and I have report cards from when I was in Italy)… how would colleges know/how would I let colleges know about it?

You need to take a test that shows your knowledge of the language because 7th grade isn’t going to appear anywhere. On commonapp, there’s a question about languages you speak at home or know so you could enter the information there but you’d still need external validation for it to count toward the foreign language entrance requirement.

In terms of external validation for your Italian language skills, there is an SAT subject test and AP test for Italian (the AP test covers higher level material). Whether universities will accept it in lieu of foreign language requirements depends on each university’s policy.

@ucbalumnus @MYOS1634 Thank you so much for the information!

I just checked: The Italian test is in June. Register TODAY (deadline is May 14 for phone registration, 22 for online registration).
