Best courses to take in community college concurrently.

I am currently a junior in highschool and have recently noticed that my school schedule isn't rigorous enough, as a result I want to start taking courses at my local community college. I went through the course catalog and there were so many different classes to choose from and was just wondering what you suggest I take. I understand that not all community colleges have the same courses, all I want are general suggestions, like "English" or "psychology". Thanks!

See if your state flagship university has a transfer credit articulation list for your community college. This can help you tell which courses it considers to be worthy college level courses (as opposed to remedial courses, non-transferable courses for non-bachelor’s-degree programs, etc.).

The community college course catalog should mark which classes are transferable to the public university system in your state. You’ll have to look at the class descriptions rather than the schedule. Like previous post mentioned, check with the schools you are interested in as well. Some will have online info on what classes they accept for what kind of credit.

English and math classes will require you to take the assessment test through the college. Unless your high school isn’t offering you a high enough math or English class I wouldn’t bother. They fill up fast and as a high school student, you’ll likely have very low priority when it comes to registration. Sciences can be tough too because of the time commitment. Most in our community college are 4 to 5 units and require a 4 hour lab weekly smack in the middle of the day. If you don’t have a flexible high school schedule, that can be tough.

Art History, philosophy, psychology, political science, geography, foreign languages… those tend to be good classes that generally transfer. Astronomy might work as the labs are generally in the evening. Yes, look for classes that transfer but also look at what you are interested in and that show who you are.
