Students/Parents: with the rules changing this past year, what is the best credit cards for students, especially if they travel/study abroad?

They changed the rules (if you are under 21), did ay new students experience this, this past year.?

Anyone care to share? Amex vs. regular card (Visa/MC)?

mc or visa is generally better than Amex, which is accepted at more upscale locations. But beware that part of Europe are changing to cards that have electronic chips embedded in them. So even if a place says that they will take visa/mc, they may not accept the US version (bcos they don’t have the chip).

that’s interesting to know. Wonder what business people are doing? I really want her to have 2 options, especially for emergencies.

We looked at the same problem for our D who will be off next month to Europe.

We set up another bank account with a set amount of money in it as an emergency fund that she can access with an ATM card.

I travelled a lot this summer, and Visa was definitely the best option for all countries. Some countries don’t take Amex and it can be frustrating.
