Best Critical Reading Vocabulary Book?

After finding out my critical reading score, I realized that I need to study more vocabulary. What SAT Vocabulary book is the best? Right now, I am deciding between Direct Hits and Princeton Review's Word Smart. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I’ve heard good things about Direct Hits, but have never used it. Princeton Review’s flashcards are also very nice, as are the Sparknotes 250 and 1000 words lists.

Yesss Direct Hits is great
The author studied past SATs, found the most frequent words, and compiled a huge list and incorporated the words into various pop culture references. Like, he used megatron and voldemort to help the reader memorize the word covet.

oh and barrons hot words have some good ones too

Did you find a lot of the words in Direct Hits on the test?

Definitely. I owe my 2400 to DH. Best $30 I ever spent on books.

Yeah direct hits is the best, I guess. With those vocabs, I mostly do 15-17 out of 19. So should be great.

Thanks for your recommendation! I just ordered Direct Hit from amazon. I gonna retake SAT in January. Hope that 2 months is enough for me to study vocabulary and improve my score in Reading.

I am an international student. I got 490 in November test and wonder why it was that bad. I think that I am in the middle 500 or high 500, but finally it turned out that low. I will try to get to low 600 or middle 600 for the next test.

Okay thanks!

But if you want to go for a long list to secure your >700 for CR, I would say go for Gruber’s 3400 list. The meanings of words are concise but very close to the Oxford dictionary. The best list I’ve seen, really.
